It's both.

Basically, you can't go wrong with any British comedy. They may have bad teeth, but the Brits have the best senses of humor in the world, by far.

As per recommendations, check out Dinnerladies, French and Saunders, Vicar of Dibley, One Foot in the Grave, and Absolutely Fabulous. I'd also recommend Father Ted, but you're on that already, and Coupling is fantastic (make sure it's the British one, not the American one as it's a huge difference).

Again, you can't miss with anything really.

That's interesting you say that actually. My British wife and I had never seen either one before last year, so we figured we'd watch the British one first (since it came first and only has 12 episodes or so) then move on to the American one if we liked it.

Well, after three episodes of the British Office, we decided to check out how the American one stacked up and found that one MUCH more enjoyable. I don't know how it is, but the British version is kind of dark and depressing that makes you feel weird when it's done. Ricky Gervais came off as a total douchebag as opposed to Steve Carell who is just a total idiot, but lovable. I just found the American version to be lighter, funnier, and leaves you smiling at the end.
