The Offspring: Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace

It is due out in 2 days, does anyone care?

I think I'll pick it up. I hope they did a full album though, I hate 35 minute CD's.

And yes, I buy CD's. Fuck crap quality MP3s and questions of ownership.

I know I'll be buying it. I downloaded Hammerhead off their site weeks ago.

Hammerhead sounds like every other song they've put out since Conspiracy of One, plus the riff is a rip-off of 'All the Day and All the Night'. I've lost hope in the boys unfortunately, but who knows, maybe this'll prove to be great record like 'Smash', 'Ixnay on the Hombre' or 'Americana'

I never cared for anything past Smash.
Ten points to GP, mp3s are weak.

I would like to cash in my points now. Can I please have the giant pink bear next to the stuffed Popeye doll.

Thank you.

Now that I've collected my prizes I am going to use them to earn some real points in another system...

"Oh honey! I won you a present!"

Does anyone remember their self titled album, or "Ignition"?

Smash was good but its been all downhill from there, although they have had 2 or 3 catchy songs per albums since then, I've lost faith in them.

I own both. Also, Ixnay >= Smash. There, I said it.

I agree with you there Val. Ixnay's probably my favorite. And I have the self-titled. Not a huge fan of that one though.

Beheaded is great. Jennifer lost the war, Blackball, & Crossroads are all solid imo.

'Don't Pick it Up' is mine Laughing

In all seriousness, 'Self-Esteem' is closer.

Dirty Magic was the first song I ever learned to play on bass.

Don't Pick it Up isn't so bad for a life story... at least it isnt When You're in Prison

Well... I own it. I got it at BestBuy for $9.99.

I still feel like I got ripped off.

Here is why:

1) Slow tracks. There are too many.
2) Riffs from other better songs. I get it, there are only so many notes in the world... you don't have to play all of them the same way over and over. I feel like they drained the life out of their older albums to come up with new songs.
3) No Edgy Lyrics. Say something or SHUT THE FUCK UP. While there are a few fun lines in there, the majority of the songs are very weak in the lyrical department.
4) No odd song. Intermission, When you're in prison, Welcome, Time to Relax. I miss that shit.
5) Blink 182. WTF? Whatever it is that makes something sound like Cheesy Punk Rock... this album found it. The album felt like it was made for a 12 year old girl, not for people who liked The Offspring.
6) Dexter's voice can't carry this band any further. He sang ok, but his voice no longer sounds original for him. The band can't just have him sing crap and expect it to be good.
7) The Mix. Seriously... was the person who mixed the album hearing impaired? The guitar tracks often times mute the vocals and that isn't during solos or anything... wait... what solos... (get back to that in a sec). The mixing was just not up to par for a professional album.
8 ) Guitar solos... that could have helped... anything? Anyone? /sigh
9) Packaging. No fucking jewel case? I bought the fucking CD, I didn't download this shit, I want to now put it into a CD holder. In order to do that I need a FUCKING JEWEL CASE YOU MOTHER FUCKING REJECTS. Not some cardboard sleeve. How fucking cheep are you ass clowns?

The good?
Not too much. There are a few moments in songs that are good. Track 3 starts out like it could be amazing, but does this odd transition thing where it turns into another good song, but the transition feels odd. It feels like a freshly paved highway that has only one small 10 foot section that wasn't repaved yet. You really feel it when you hit it, but otherwise its good.

I am sure some of it will feel better after listening a bit more, but... this album makes me kinda wish that they would retire.
