So,
How do you normally listen to music?
I listen to music in many places, but here are my routine listening spots.
1) Car - MP3/WMA CD player with about 100 tracks. Compressed music doesn't bother me much when in a vehicle because road noise exists.
2) Office - MP3/WMA on Hard Drive. I have my CD collection digitized for work. Since I can't play it any louder than normal talking levels the compression doesn't hurt the sound too much.
3) Home Office - CDs - 2.0 TEAC Stereo. I love this system, it really sounds great but has limited bass. This is good since I live in an apartment. I use this system when I am on my main gaming machine.
4) Home Office - MP3 - 4.1 Surround Sound Altec Lansing. Back in 1999 these speakers were the shit. Now they mainly offer surround sound for video games. Still on rare occasion when I want to listen to something downloaded instead of CDs I have what I would call "good" speakers.
5) Home Theater System - 5.1 Surround Sound Onkyo Receiver, Samsung CD Player - PolkAudio speakers. I love listening to anything on this system. It blows away all of my other options, but it is way too loud for an apartment and also way too loud for my wife. Once in a while on a Saturday if she goes out with her friends I will put in a CD and blast it.
So... if you didn't notice my list doesn't have anything considered portable. I have had players, I just don't listen to them. I don't know why, but when I'm moving I don't like listening.

I like to have music playing when I'm sleeping, doesn't seem to wake me up if it's something loud and obnoxious either, I spent years sleeping to black / death metal.
Other than that I'll throw a CD in the dvd player if I've got guests that don't want to watch a movie (one of the few things to do at my house)
I've given up on listening to music in my car, the radio is gay and my CD player is kaput.

Car - I only have a CD player so it's choice of five mix CDs: A Disney Land ride collection, custom Buffy Musical, a mix CD I made for a horror convention two years ago, Epicon, and another mix of "car songs".
Mac - Where my real MP3 collection resides.
Laptop - Doesn't have as many songs on it in an effort to keep the memory clear, but a few albums I've downloaded and yet to burn to CD are on it. The Lazlow Show also exclusively resides on it.
Would be room stereo - It's broken so only one speaker works and even that is off and on. I need to get a new one, but too cheap to get one.
MP3 Player - 512 mb of awesomeness.
PSP - Almost exclusively Podcasts.
Home Theater System - I barely use it to listen to audio despite the 5.1-ness of it. I will listen to a new CD on it, but that's about it. Staring at nothing defeats the purpose for me.

Wonder if anyone still
I know every now and then a modern band will release a limited vinyl run, seems like a neat idea to hear modern music on an old hunk o junk.

Stereo- I have an old school stereo with spectacular speakers. I have my dvd player hooked up to it, so it doubles as my cd player. I also make good use of its turntable.
Computer- I have about 29 GB of music on my D Drive...I had to copy from it from C to D, it took me 53 minutes :$
Car- My car is not in working condish, and it only has a tape deck that plays fast.
Outside- My 8GB iPod nano, with approx. 1875 of my favorite songs on it.
I'm a little obsessed.

I have a few records, mainly for albums that were released exclusively on vynal. I understand why in the early 90's people preferred vynal, because CD seemed shallower, not as full. But now, if anyone says they like vynal better, they are either being pretentious assholes, or they are nostalgic and enjoy the sound of the hisses and pops.

I'm such a pretentious asshole I've made mixes of songs where I add in the hisses and pops with a filter. Why I need some songs to sound old timey I have no idea -- I had a lot of time on my hands too.

I have had OCD for probably my entire life.
While in sleep away camp in the early 90s I could never fall asleep because people would snore. I had two GNR tapes (first Appetite and second Use Your Illusions I) that I would put into my walkman tape player and fall to sleep to every single night.
My asshole counselor thought it was funny when he found me asleep to turn off the player but set the volume to maximum.
Several times I would forget and the next night I would blow my fucking ears out.
I still think to this date that my hearing is damaged from that.

I think I've done the same thing with headphone sleeping, subwoofers in the car and going to concerts with no ear plugs has not probably helped either, and having a headset phone on full volume to drown out all the other agents while I struggle to understand my caller has probably sealed my fate as being half deaf.

Desktop PC - OGGs/some MP3s. Has almost all of my music. I have some CDs laying around that I still haven't ripped, but digitized or not this is where I listen to all of my music. Having a stereo doesn't pay off for me. When I'm at home my computer is running anyway whether I use it or not.
Laptop - OGGs. It's not of any use at the moment because the stupid thing is borken.
As far as portable players go, I'm with the Gishman.

Howard Stern had a woman straddle a speaker once... I suppose that you could listen to music with your vagina.

Well, I don't have one of those on my body so I'll stick to using my ears.

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.
Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.

My desktop is my primary source of music at home. I have it hooked up to a Yamaha receiver and it's pretty nice. Sometimes I'll listen on my laptop using headphones (laptop speakers are ass). In the car, I use an ipod classic, which hooks up directly to my Alpine deck (none of that cassette or fm adapter crap). I have a fuckload of CDs, but since almost everything is in digital format I rarely ever play them. MP3 is my format of choice, preferably V0 VBR.

I used to as well but I was like 4-5 years old. My dad would have Pot Smoking/Risk parties and come 9 o clock I was in bed falling asleep to White Snake, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc. It took like 14 years but I finally can go to sleep without any music/noise.
I usually just listen to whatever is in my disc changer in the car and whatever happens to be in my I-pod.

Car - Radio
Home - WinAmp on my PC. I have 4.1 speakers hooked up to my computer, but I almost always listen via headphones.
Elsewhere - Usually nothing. My phone has a bunch of mp3s on it, but I rarely bring the ear buds with me.

What is the draw to WinAmp?
I remember back in the day when it was the only real option... but now, why?

I've been using winamp since like 1995. I've tried other players throughout the years (sonique, foobar, itunes, wmp, etc.), but I always find myself going back to winamp. It does everything I could ever want in a music player and the layout is like second nature to me. A better question would be what's wrong with winamp?
