I think it's a british site, since they scored Danger Mouse so high.

And, when I watched the Bananaman video, something clicked in the back of my brain, which I think means that I watched this has a kid and then buried the memory of it far away.

Top 18 wtf are "top" lists suppose to end in zeros?

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.

Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.

I've always wondered what the guidelines are for a list like this. Does the cartoon have to have originated in the 80's? Can the show have began in the 70's if most of its run was in the 80's? Does in matter when it began/ended or how long it was on in the 80's just as long as it was produced at least in some part in the 80's?

I would actually agree with 10-13 of his picks.

Transformers
TMNT
GI Joe
Dangermouse
He-Man
Thundercats
Voltron
MASK
Mysterious Cities of Gold
Dungeons and Dragons

Possibly Inspector Gadget and Bananaman.

And maybe, probably not, the smurfs. I would have probably included it as a kid, but probably not now.

Some others I would have included

Thundarr the Bararian
Count Duckula
Captain N (started in September '89, so I was hesitant. Maybe this is better suited as a 90's cartoon. I guess it depends on the "rules" of the list)
C.O.P.S.
The Real Ghostbusters
Hulk Hogan's Rock n Wrestling
She-Ra (Wasn't this an attempt to try and lure girls into the He-Man universe? It wasn't much different from He-Man and I really can't see how it would attract any girls that weren't already a part of He-Man's fanbase. I was never sure if I was supposed to be watching it or not. But for me, it wasn't really different than watching a He-Man cartoon where Teela would save the day, other than the fact that she could kick ass like He-Man.)

I guess for the last spot, if the 80's repackagings of Superfriends count I'd take that. If you consider it still Superfriends and 70's only, I'd have to take either Bravestar, Silverhawks, Blackstar, Dinosaucers, and Inspector Gadget.

I completely forgot about Ulysses 31. I loved that show as a kid. It's surprising that nobody thought about combining greek mythology with science-fiction again until BSG. Maybe I'm missing something.

I also always thought that I had watched mostly American cartoons: TMNT, Ghostbusters, He-Man, Thundercats etc. etc. But thinking of it now I remember a lot of anime shows that I loved: Ulysses 31, Captain Future, Saber Riders, Galaxy Rangers. I never really thought of them as anime. And I almost never watch anime nowadays.

I never saw Ulysses 31 or any of the others you listed at the end. I've heard quite a few people say thy liked them though. I wonder why I never seen them. I dunno.

None of them were that successful in North America. Galaxy Rangers probably is the most well known one, since it was produced by an American company (but drawn in Japan). Captain Future was a huge success in Europe, but only a handful of episodes were dubbed into English. It's a great show though. Saber Rider on the other hand didn't age well. It was exploiting both the space western angle of Galaxy Rangers and BraveStarr as well the giant robot appeal of Transformers and Voltron. It didn't offer much else and was pretty repetitive in retrospect.

Ones i remember:

Dungeons and Dragons - really, did they ever get home?
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - ZOMG, that's optimus prime!
Thundercats are on the loose! Thundercats are loose!!!!
He-man and the Masters of the Universe - I HAVE TTTTTTTTTO FART!
Inspector Gadget - go go Gadget condoms, theres your missing joke
GI JOE -battle the half is knowing and
TMNT - HELL YES!
Transformers - Double HELLs YES!!!!

Ones i do not recall:

Bananaman - WTF
Visionaries - evidence that who ever did the art for 1980s cartoons was still on whatever they got hooked on in the 1960s
Jem and The Holograms - thank god
The Mysterious Cities of Gold - it must have not lasted long
Ulysees 31 - Uleeeeeeeeeeiiiiiieeeeeeeiiiieeeeeeesees (see Visionaries)
MASK - sorry syd
Dangermouse - i had a couple of comics, but i don't remember there ever being a cartoon show
Spiderman and his Amazing Friends; and Spiderman - i really don't remember this, the 1990s one has dominated my brain
Battle of the planets- i remember seeing advertisement with some of the characters with the thundercats, but that's it.

This only proves that i focused more on the more commercialized shows as a kid. And WTF, no Rescue rangers? Duck Tales? Tails Spin? No Disney at all? But the 1980s was when Disney didn't suck! F Bannanaman, i want to see some Darkwing Duck! Mad

American kids would have only saw Dangermouse on Nickelodien, as they were the only ones to air the show here.

Also, I belive most of the Disney cartoons that you mentioned didn't come out in the UK until after 1990, when they went into serialization.

I still watch the old Spideman cartoons because watching him swing off the sky is hilarious Laughing

Oh, it's a list of favorite cartoons from 1980s UK, my bad. I should read the stuff before the list from now on. Wink
