Not sure if this should be in video games or music?
But what tunes do you guys like to listen to while game playing? Or even none at all?
For a long time i had Mer De Noms on quite a lot for FFT. As well as some of the John Williams music from the Harry Potter Franchise. Also i had Disturbeds Believe alot on for brawlers

Guns & Roses. It gets me pumped up, and the slow songs keep me from going completely bat shit.

As far as I'm concerned, Garage Inc. is the the soundtrack for FFI.

It really depends on the game. They all develop their own personalities.
I do have a battle songs play list I crafted almost exclusively for video game bosses. It has found a lot of other uses though. They're just songs that get me pumped up.
I'm playing through Aria of Sorrow right now, and I find that rap fits quite well with it. That classical.

It's weird. I have such a fucked up confilct going on right now. I'm more of a music person than I am a video game one so every day I always try and figure out when I can listen to music (especialy when I have newly purchased albums to soak in). And since I can't lie back on my bed and just listen (otherwise I fall asleep), I figure the best time is when I'm on the computer or while I'm playing video games. But here lies a dilemma, what about the soundtracks on video games that the programmers worked so hard to make? Unless of course its a game I've played a thousand times already or is a game with shitty music.

Well as much as i do like video game music certain music such as battle music just gets repetitive especially for a lot of rpgs.

I try to immerse myself in my video games, so I only listen to whatever sounds and/or music are provided by the game itself.

Back in the day it was either Motley Crue, or Red Hot Chili Peppers for me back in the NES & SNES days. FPS games I always like metal, Hatebreed, Drowning Pool, In Flames, and so on. Fighting games I always need something fast, like power metal, Dragonforce, Dying Fire, os something from Finland. Sports I lean towards hip hop, excpet racing, then it is the Dazed and Confused Soundtrack.

Normally I play them with just the game music, but if I do listen to music it is Venetian Snares.

Yes to the Motley Crue. Or GNR. But other than the odd Guitar Hero sesh, I really only play GTA, so it fits.

OMG! I felt super nerdy the other day because I was listening to the GTA radio while playing different games. It took me a while to realize the irony of it.
And then I was playing San Andreas while listening to Integrity 2.0 from GTA IV. Oh, how fun.

Usually I'm like Syd; I like to listen to the music the game gives. However, if it's a game I've played many times before (or the music has gotten old for me :/) I'll listen to some music instead.
I used to listen to The Gorillaz when I was leveling up my characters in Secret of Mana... I did it so much that now whenever I hear the Gorillaz, I think Secret of Mana. Oops.
Right now I'm trying to play Tomb Raider Anniversary (read: I'm repeatedly slaughtering Lara in all kinds of ways in an attempt to get further into the game), and after attempting the same jump in the same area about 25 times, the music has gotten old and now I'm listening to um Maximum the Hormone (crazy Japanese bands and their crazy names).

I can not get past that T-Rex with a mouse and keyboard. Now I have to get the game for the PS2...

Those are way worse. 'Angry VG Nerd who whores himself for money loads of money' proved that in one of his vids.

I don't know how the game works on a PC but I only died a couple of times ("only" *snort*) before I killed him. :/ There's a couple of centaurs later on that are way harder than the freakin T-Rex. Ugh.

It's a problem of not enough fingers and hands. Jumping in slow motion is extremely difficult.

Most of the games I play racing sims and online multiplayer games, so if there is music it gets stale quick.
I listen to online radio for the most part, I can't be arsed to muck with my playlist while I'm playing TF2 or some other F PS. I mostly listen to Slay Radio, which plays nothing but remixes of C64 music, and Scene Sat, which just plays remixes of game music in general.
Or podcasts. Racing sims and podcasts go well together.

SModcast + game that doesn't require much brain power = wonderful time. Pot optional.
Another bit of irony: I listen to The Lazlow Show a lot when gaming too. Thank you box set!

Back in the days of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, I use to play those and listen to Nirvana, The Breeders, MYWTTKK, KMFDM, & Green Jelly with my walkman. Real music was far perferable to the Midi shit of the early 90s.

When I do listen to music while gaming, I'll just listen to whatever I feel like from my music collection.

I'll listen to music when I'm playing sports games (I won't mention which cause I'll get hate) or old school games where I've heard the in game music too many times and don't particularly care for it. Oh, and I listen to rap. I'll leave it at that.

I use to like playing GTA VC and while I was bieng chased by cops I'd play I Ran by A Flock of Seagulls. The song was in the game though but it was still pretty sweet.
The only time I need music in a VG is when I'm playing Zelda and that fucking annoying tune from having no hearts kicks in.
"Having no Hearts" that would make a sick band name wouldn't it?

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.
Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.
