Many have tried, but so far nobody has been able to pry the decade-in-the-works Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" from the hands of lone remaining original member Axl Rose.
Now, Dr Pepper thinks it's up to the challenge. The soft drink company says it will give a free can of Dr Pepper to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" arrives anytime during the calendar year 2008.

"It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love," Dr Pepper director of marketing Jaxie Alt says. "So we completely understand and empathize with Axl's quest for perfection -- for something more than the average album. We know once it's released, people will refer to it as 'Dr Pepper for the ears' because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds - an instant classic." |

the blog is pretty funny too:

It’s official, Guns N Roses has lost another guitar player this week…Robin Finck has decided to rejoin Nine Inch Nails where he will accompany Trent Reznor for NIN’s summer tour. What does this mean for the future of Guns and Chinese Democracy? Who will fill the open slot now for the gunners? Dare I say it? No, it can not be…But maybe Bucket will return now that Axl is so adamant about sharing his Dr Pepper with him…And they question must be put out there…Should Robin still get his Dr Pepper after this bold move? Never before has a soda been so disrespected…you decide… |

Robin probably hasn't quit the band. He toured with NIN before without leaving GNR.

What's really funny is that Axl actually handed the completed album to geffen two days ago...now we get to see how long Geffen will delay its release!

I live in Canada, so I only get the music...but Guns N' Roses is one of the few bands I have every album for...except for one. And as I have OCD and am a completist as a result, that makes me angry...

You are doing okay if the album in question is not Appetite.

Yeah, that would have been the better buy, except that Greatest Hits wasn't out in 1998.

So the current rumor is that Izzy Stradlin will be replacing Robin Finck in GN'R.
It is plausible, as Izzy has done guest appearances at some of Axl's shows over the last few years, but I doubt it will happen. It would be nice though.
And Weiland been's fired from Velvet Revolver, both for being a walking trainwreck and for deciding to do some STP reunion shows instead of recording with Velvet Revolver. This leaves Slash and Duff without a singer. Fullblown GN'R reunion? Of course not. In a press release, Weiland recommended Sebastian Bach, who had been one of the top choices originally to front VR, as his replacement. This is probably unlikely to happen at this point in time. Sebastian has been hanging out a lot with his current and former best friend Axl Rose, so I'm pretty sure he wouldn't join VR at this point unless Axl gave him permission. Also, in terms of stability, he's not much better than Weiland. He doesn't have the drug problems that Weiland has, but he's pretty much just Axl Lite when it comes to tantrums.

Slash said that when they tried out Baz, they sounded like Skid Roses.
I say that sounds fucking awesome!

I thought STP was better than Velvet Revolver anyway.
But VR is amazing.

Honestly, I enjoyed STP more too. VR, Slash's Snakepit, and Slash's Blues Ball were okay, but something was missing. There were never any riffs as hard as the AFD stuff or as epic as the UYI ballads.

I think you're right about that Syd, though Blues Ball doesn't count as it was mostly covers (or entirely, can't remember).
And 'Let It Roll' off Libertad has a killer riff, and 'Fall To Pieces' from Contraband is a good solid power ballad.
