Now, I'm almost positive I've brought her up before, but I absolutely love Suzie McNeil. For those who don't know her, she was the last female contestant on Rockstar:INXS. I think she's more known in Canada than the states, and was even nominated for Best New Artist at the Junos last weekend. She does a Kelly Clarkson/Pink type pop/rock, but with a bluesier edge, and her voice is just AMAZING.
Well, on Tuesday, I went and saw her at this pub, Houston's. The doors were at 7, but my friend and I went at 5 to eat. The band was setting up and soundchecking and sweet Jesus fuck, she walked in. She walked past me within 10 feet and I couldn't believe it. After checking things out, she left the way she came and as she walked past the table, she looked at me and smiled. OOPS! I was too chickenshit to say anything!
So we left at 6ish and hung out. At around 6:30ish we stood by the doors. We saw her walk in through the back and heard her inside practicing. I became very sad when I realized I blew my chance to meet her.
So we get in, grab a table closest to the stage. We hang out and drink for an hour before the opening duo come on. As they were ending their set I switched to water and sobered up.
K, I don't have to get into details, but Suzie's show was amazing. I stood in front of the stage basically right in front of her and took pictures the whole time, and she seemed to like me there. She even smiled at my camera for a few shots.
For those who remember her from the show, she played a medley of 'Roxanne', 'Never Tear Us Apart', and 'Losing My Religion', and did 'I Can't Make You Love Me'.
For her encore she did 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and stood right in front of the stage literally and arm's length away. And when it came time for the infamous headbanging part, you know I took part! And she seemed impressed, because I could hear her yell "yeah!" halfway through.
Once she finished this amazingly gentle and beautiful closer, I called her name and sorta sign-languaged 'can I get a pic of you and me'? and she flashed her million-dollar smile and nodded. As she got off stage, she got fuckin BOMBARDED by fans. She was whisked away into the crowd and I freaked. But then I saw her sit at the bar, so I made my move.
As I approached, her band mates and handlers were like "yeah man! rockin' out! That was awesome!" and all patted me on the back and guided me to Suzie's side. Suzie turned to me and I said hi and handed her my cd booklet and the poster I ripped off the bathroom wall. As she signed my stuff I had this exchange with her:
"So I got a question. When my band gets all rich and famous and it comes time for the solo album, see, I have this plan where I take all my favorite musicians and we all get together and jam on my favorite songs. Would you like to sing 'Sweet Child O' Mine'?
"...yeah, sure! What's your name?"
Then I got a picture with her. HOLY FUCK! It was amazing! I couldn't believe it!!!!
So yeah, that was my night. I was just wondering if anyone else knew of or liked her? You may have heard 'Hung Up' or 'Believe' (potential 2010 Olympics theme) on the radio...and yeah, here's the picture of me and her. She's a lot prettier than me and I have drunk eyes.
