The Lone Rangers - Degenerated
Reagan Youth kinda sucked, and the original version is sloppy, chaotic, and largely unlistenable compared to the kickass metal version from the Airheads soundtrack.

Nazareth - Love Hurts
First recorded by the Everly Brothers in 1960, shortly followed by Roy Orbison in 1961, and then a bunch of other artists, Nazareth's version was the only one to capture enough interest to make the singles chart.

Ill go with the obvious Watchtower. Nothing against Dylan but man Hendrix blew him away.
I like S.O.A.D.'s Metro cover a lot, in fact its my favorite song of theirs.

Foo Fighters - Darling Nikki

I don't think I've ever heard Prince's original rendition, but I'm positive this is the superior version. I will never get tired of it.

Hurt by Johnny Cash. He just made it his own.

I second Watchtower.

And of course I'm gonna say You Really Got Me by the Mighty Van Halen!

And they're playing Manfred Mann Earth Band's version of Springsteen's "Blinded By The Light". Springsteen licks balls.

Co-sign Van Halen

This is tough to say, and I'm not sure if I actually like it better or not, but I think Kravitz version of American Woman is at least in the same league as the original Guess Who version.

Any cover Elvis did is better than the original by default.

And I think I'll go ahead and co-sign on Hurt by Johnny Cash also.

I'm tempted to say John Lenon had a better version of Stand by Me than Ben E King. But that is a tough call.

The Who's version of Summertime Blues.

I'd also be curious which version of I Go Blind any Canadians on here like better, Hootie or 54-40 since that last group didn't get a lot of exposure in the US and most Americans probably haven't heard their version.

Johnny Cash - Hurt, The City of New Orleans (Arlo Guthrie)
White Stripes - Death Letter (v. Son House, though I love both songs)
The Clash - I Fought the Law (Bobby Fuller Four), Police on My Back (Eddy Grant)
The Ramones - Palisades (The Beach Boys)
Cream - Crossroads (Robert Johnson)
Anything Zeppling, Hendrix, or Clapton ever covered. Hell, most of their music was covers

There's probably a lot of others, but those ones jump to mind immediately.

Thought of another. I like the Smashing Pumpkins version of Landslide better than Fleetwood Mac.

Also, I like most of the cover songs by Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies. I don't necessarily think they are better than the original. They cover pretty popular stuff. But I still like the songs quite a bit.

Not at all. I like the originals so much better. You forgot to put in Judas Priests cover of Peter Green's "The Green Manilishi."

Nothing beats Hendrix's Voodoo Child.

While we're discussing Judas Priest and Joan Baez covers....Diamonds and Rust. I'm a gigantic fan of the original cover they did, as well as the half acoustic version they did on the Angel of Retribution tour. When the drums kick in, it absolutely rocks balls.

And scamrock...54-40's version

Manson's cover of Down in the park sounds pretty cool.
DO NOT look inside the sleeve that comes with the cd. or you'll be horribly scarred for life.
I belive it's the Lunchbox single.

The Tony Hawk American Wasteland soundtrack has some pretty good covers. They are not better than the originals but some of them are extremely good. I really like the Thursday cover.

Cradle of Filth's covers of Maiden's 'Fear of the Dark' and 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' are pretty spectacular.
