Any punk fans in here? I searched and couldn't find a thread about punk, so I decided to start one.

Favorite bands:
Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Minor Threat, Black Flag
[NOTE: It ain't the Misfits without Danzig, and it ain't DK without Jello. Had to clarify]
I tend to favor 80's hardcore punk, but, as you can see by Dropkick and Flogging Molly, I've got a thing for folk punk as well. In all honesty, I don't care for the Ramones or the Sex Pistols that much, as I prefer the faster and heavier punk bands (and as a side note, the Pistols were never that good, and I'm sure Syd agrees with me). I've started to get into Discharge, as they're heavy on the metallic side.
As for newer bands, I've been meaning to pick up Gallows' album, and Rise Against is all right. I need to hear more of them.

And just for the record, I don't consider this MTV "pop-punk" to be punk at all.

Anything that's more concerned with the music than with some half-assed attempted at political commentary. So, uh, not Anti-Flag.

When I listened to more music, I usually favored the poser bands like Green Day or Offspring. I really liked Offspring back in the day.

Then there was this Australian band called "The Living End" that sounded like Green Day. They were pretty good.

I went through a punk thing in middle school, but I still like some bands, like Rise Against, old Offspring, Bad Religion, Living End, and like one Anti-Flag song.

I am a fan of Flogging Molly and Rise Against, and I can enjoy Offspring and some of Green Day's early stuff, but that is about it.

Black Flag is the fuckin' shit man. Ramones were good back in the day but they got boring a little after the '80s staryed. and Never Mind the Bollocks was a damn good record, especially the song EMI. Descendents are pretty darn goodd, mindy you I don't enjoy very much of their stuff that wasn't on Milo Goes to College.

I may be the biggest Offspring fan on these boards.

The Misfits rule...thats all i have to say about that, except that back in high school i named my favorite pot-smoking device "Skulls" in homage. Of course, it had a cliched skull for the bowl. ::sigh:: wasted youth.

Come to think of it, Wasted Youth's another band I should check out. I knew Dave Kushner from Velvet Revolver started off playing in Wasted Youth, but never bothered to listen to them. Time to go scouting.

For the record, I'm pretty sure your "wasted youth" quote wasn't a reference.

I forgot Suicidal Tendencies, but I find myself digging their metal years more than the punk years.

from what I've heard of refused, I couldn't stand them.

my problem with most punk is that it sounds EXACTLY the same, and very unrefined and talentless. I don't listen to alot of music for the message, so much as the sound, so maybe that's it. I know a lot of punk is more about preaching it seems.

Thats what i like about refused. They came out like 12 years ago with the whole screamo thing and named their album The Shape of Punk to Come. I mean what was ruling rock airwaves back then? Green Day, Sugar Ray No doubt Bush Cake etc etc. These guys sounded like nothing that was out. Now years later bands are following the verse scream verse method. Also they were from Europe. and in the 90s Europe gave us Ace Of Bass :shudders:

Some of my Favs are The Deadly Rhthym, New Noise, The Refused Party Programme, Protest Song '68, Refused Are Fucking Dead.

Seconded.......

I went to the warped tour back when they were in the line up, had never heard them before. They get on stage, and there was a flag hanging upside down behind the drummer. Before they even think about doing anything, the guy in front of the mic turns around and points at the flag and starts talking about "blah blah blah, this flag is upside-down because this country is in distress and fucked up", and he talked for like fucking 2 minutes, then I left. This is an enourmous amount of time when you are in a all-day venue and there are much better bands playing on another stage.....he was still running his mouth as I was walking away, I pretty sure I have yet to hear one of their songs.

Suicidal Tendancies was my first concert, I was like 14 and had no business in a grown folks mosh pit Laughing
I've always considered Napalm Death a punk band, I know they're grindcore but the concepts and lyrics for their albums just feel very punk to me.

My all time favorite band is The Clash, but I grew up on punk. Rancid, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedies, Black Flag...all that stuff is awesome.

This may come off as blasphemy, but I hate the Ramones.

Beat on the Brat
Blitzkrieg Bop
Judy is a Punk

Take those three chord progressions, add goofy lyrics, and you have 90% of the Ramone's discography.
