It needs to be renamed something like "the music hall of fame" otherwise they should just make a hall of fame for every genre, but that would be lame and stupid

There's just so many things wrong with this that I wouldn't know where to begin. I'll just say that the Hall of Fame just lost all credibility in my eyes.

Not to mention the lack of Metallica and Motley Crue (who've done great things for rock), and the fact that Van Halen, Black Sabbath, and Lynyrd Skynyrd took forever to get in. Fuck the Hall of Shame man

KISS
Rush
Alice Cooper
Deep Purple
Judas Priest

5 artists who should really be in the Hall Of Fame.

Bringing up Metallica in a heavy metal discussion is like bringing up Yoko Ono in a Beatles discussion.

Eh, the RnRHoF is a joke anyway, with selections based on personal preference of the founder rather than those who've actually mattered to the rock world. Case in point: Lack of Rush.
Seriously, fuck the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame.

Regardless, they influenced a load of people to pick up a guitar (*coughDimebagcough*) and form bands, and they're definitely more worthy of an induction than Madonna.
And add Metallica and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to the list. One pioneered Thrash, the other pioneered the innovative-at-the-time funky/rap rock. Let 'em in next year, will ya?
EDIT: On second thought, maybe next year's a little early. Work on the five in neilpeartjr's list before we work on the "newer" acts.
By the way, if Pantera and Slayer are ever inducted, I'll have seen it all.

TO me more people picked up Makeup watching Kiss. Kiss wasn't that talented. Most of their songs were bland party anthems. If it wasn't for the live show and image doubt they would have lasted through the 70s. They have whored themselves for the almighty $.

KISS isnt too bad, but im not into them. I would rather they have the RHCP instead, more so because i am a fan of theirs.

so of course, my statement is definitely biased, but the RnR HoF is too broad nowadays to exclude anyone. like someone mentioned, they should just call it the music HoF.

That's the entire point of Kiss, so it's kind of silly to slam them for it. They do party anthems because their show is supposed to be a blast. If Paul Stanley came out and just practiced scales for seven hours, that's a yawnfest show. Some bands exist purely for the showmanship, and the fact that Kiss sells still doesn't so much say that they are whores, but more than whatever the secret is to their formula, it works.

As far as Madonna in the HoF, that's fine with me. "Rock and Roll" isn't restricted solely to skinny white guys with long hair who look like meth addicts.

No, it's not just white guys. But rock n' roll is guitar-based, or at the very least blues-based. People like Aretha Franklin certainly deserve to be in the RnRHoF. But Madonna? What did Madonna do before the late 90s when she suddenly started talking with a British accent and pretending she could play acoustic guitar that can even remotely be considered rock? This isn't the music HoF, or the pop HoF. It's the rock HoF, and Madonna has no justifiable place in it.

Sydlexia FTW.

I totally agree with that, because Madonna's music in any of its various forms, just doesn't belong with The Beatles, or Chuck Berry, or Pink Floyd or Van Halen. Were the Beatles pop? Absolutely, but they played their intruments and they did things to change every fucking genre of music after them.

Side note: If GNR doesn't get in the first year they are eligible (2012), that would be a travesty.

Elitism much?

It's a tourist spot, not some authority on anything important. I hope they put Tiny Tim and Enya in it just to piss you guys off. So silly.

Tiny Tim could be approaching Rock n Roll if he played a kick ass flying V uke like the one I have.

KISS just irritate me. I love glam like New York Dolls or Hanoi Rocks Edgar Winter or Mott the Hoople. But kiss just seems too gimmicky for me. Its just smoke with no real substance.

It's not supposed to have substance. That's like going, "Driving irritates me because I can't fly in my car." Kiss is all about the show, the music is just an ingredient of that show.

Then why do they play them on the radio so much?

Well, KISS did write some decent songs. Nothing especially complex, but like the Ramones, some of their stuff is catchy. If it wasn't, no one would have gone to their live shows. Well, people would have, but they would have spent their entire career playing dive bars and only idiots would have gone to their live shows. You know, like what happened with Wendy O. Williams. But instead, they ended up playing stadiums.

But when KISS first came out, no radio station wanted to play them and their singles didn't get much play. Despite this, they were still building up a massive fanbase through their live shows. Fittingly enough, their first real radio hit was a live version of "Rock N' Roll All Nite".

The RnRHoF is just like any HoF - it's driven by money and it subjective. Is this person or band (or pro sports player, chess player, etc) better or more deserving to be enshrined forever than Player or Band X? Who gives a shit? Does the person sell records? Will the person or band's inclusion bring people to their building to pay money to see the exhibits?

All HoFs are a joke. Mikes Davis is in it and he's certainly not RnR. Neither are the Righteous Brothers and Isaac Hayes. It shouldn't be called the RnrHoF, but regardless of that fact it shouldn't be the "gold standard" for whether or not a band really is "immortal" or not.

Fuck the HoF.

I dunno, why did they play RuPaul on the radio in the early 90s, or any n umber of also-ran groups now?

Sure Kiss has whored themselves out for money, and so has any other band that has say...sold their songs for car and food commericals (many of which are in R&RHOF). Doesn't change the fact that they influenced a fuckload of musicians.

By the way, I'm more for Deep Purple being inducted before any of the other people I mentioned earlier.

There are a lot of what if's in life Donny. What if I hit you really hard in the face, knocked yo shit to the back of yo skull? What if I....had you girl gargle my nuts? The fact remains, you are a fuckin mutant.
