Alice Cooper is going to be at the Chase County Fair.
Let me explain. I'm a Nebraskan. Specifically, a western Nebraskan. West Nebraska is everything past Grand Island. After that, everyone in east Nebraska stops caring about anything that goes on. A volcano could erupt, and the Omaha World Herald would blather about an old guy's search for a replacement for his beloved dog.
Big acts come to Nebraska. Last month, we had Van Halen, for example. It's just that, the big, big acts rarely come anywhere other than the Qwest Center in Omaha (which isn't really even a part of Nebraska...). So it's kind of a big deal that ALICE FREAKING COOPER is coming to a county fair that far west of Grand Island. I mean, it's not like the Chase County fair is some dinky carnival with some junk food stalls. It is that, but its also a lot more. And it's attracted some pretty big names before. Last year, for example, they had Ted Nuegent... Neugent.... Nugent... whatever. That guy. And maybe 10 years ago REO Speedwagon was there.
BUT THIS IS ALICE COOPER. I'm going. I always go to Chase County for the fair anyway, but I'll be damned if anyone, but anyone stops me this year.

Oh shit, another Nebraska man. I used to live in the totally awesome and totally scummy town of North Platte(Mid-West Nebraska), but moved to Hastings(Eastern Nebraska) for college two years ago. So, I know all about this Nebraska shit.
But yeah, you have to go to Denver if you live as far as North Platte to see some good concerts. However, Denver gets pretty much every big concert every year. North Platte has Nebraska Land Days, which is pretty much just county music these days. However, I do remember Steve Miller Band playing there back in the day.
On a side note, eastern Nebraska gets some cool shit everyonce in a while. Last year, I saw Marilyn Manson in Lincoln, Deftones in Omaha, and the fucking Ying Yang Twins here in Hastings (which is crazy as shit, since Hastings is a small, pretty dull town).
But hell yeah. That Cooper concert sounds pretty damn cool.

Alice Cooper came to Chilliwack two years ago. If you read up on any of my posts, you'll know about Chilliwack. It's this shitty little town about an hour from Vancouver, BC. We got a new hockey rink back in '05, and so far only two acts have played there: Jann Arden, and Alice Cooper. The Cooper show got no promotion and the Arean (before it's seat expansion) was only half full, I'd say maybe 300 came. It was just sad, and now he'll probably never come back .

Alice Cooper did a show in a hockey rink? What?
Okay, I'm not trying to make fun of Canadians here, as my grandfather was one, but... that doesn't really make sense. Don't you have an auditorium? A gym? Somewhere with non-slippy surfaces?

Wow, really? Oh, I guess they don't have a major hockey team in Nebraska. Yeah, in a lot of Canadian cities (Most American cities have Basketball stadiums), the hockey rink is the biggest venue, so they cover up the floor with some sort of flooring and have the show there.
lol, that seems so weird to me, cuz all my life, you've gone to see smaller acts at clubs and bars, and big acts at GM Place (where the Canucks play) or Pacific Coliseum (where the Canucks used to play) out in Vancouver.

The Place where the Coyotes play has tons of concerts. Everything from Ozzie to Emo.

Huh. Didn't know that.
We just use either football fields or rodeo stands for this sort of thing. I think that's what Chase County does. They just set up a stage over the arena, and you either sit in the stands or stand up in front.

Yeah, GM Place has like an 18-20,000 capacity, so they have a lot of concerts there, but the acoustics at the older Pacific Coliseum are way better, and that holds 16,000.

The grand stands could hold... I don't know. Maybe thousand or so.
Considering Imperial (where the fair is held) has a population of something like 2000, that's a fairly significant number.

Yeah lol. But wow, every stereotype I've heard about Nebraska is proving true lol. Fuck man, enjoy Coop, cuz his show is INCREDIBLE. I was kinda to the side of the guillotine, and it still looked real.

If the stereotype you are alluding to is that of small towns, well... It's really not all that bad. You know all the neighbors, your kids will probably know all of their classmates (my class had about 50 kids, and my high school had about 200. There are schools, or so I'm told, that have classes bigger than that). The only downside is that you get a lot of rednecks, but they prefer living in trailer parks, anyway. Seriously. I doubt I could get any redneck I grew up with into a house that couldn't be pulled away.

So, uh, yeeah, those stereotypes. Plus I'm still kinda suffering culture shock from the whole no-concerts-where-the-hockey-team-plays thing lol.

Well, in that light, then yes, it's a very true stereotype that Nebraskans don't hold concerts on hockey rinks.
We're odd people, we know.
