Will Blade: The Series Suck?

Poll :: Will Blade: The Series Suck?

Yes, there is no way an R rated franchise will translate to TV. Plus, TV sucks. Didn't the third film ruin the series?

No, it's written by the man who wrote "Batman Begins". Plus, it looks cool! Didn't the third movie leave things open ended?

It doesn't have Wesley Snipes, that's reason enough not to watch it. I tend to hate TV series based on movies because they're always forced to recast. Well, then again, the Buffy TV series was fairly good.

From the commercials I've seen, it's looks fairly bad. I'm gonna give it a shot nevertheless, as I liked the movies. I doubt it would be anything mentally engaging like Buffy, but if it's mindless action it might be good enough for escapism entertainment, which the movies were.

blade featured a butchery of the comic franchise, having almost nothign to do with it's base material.

blade II had nothing to do with the first film, thus further distancing itself from any anchored ground.

blade trinity had triple H team up with dracula.

i have no hope for the series.

Your theory is flawed, cause the movies are way better than the comics.

And the second movie kicked ass. Especially the ass of the first film.

Watching the promo for it, the first thing that came to mind was that Witchblade series on TNT. I never watched Witchblade though.

Funny, I just downloaded a commercial of that show I always liked seeing in the theater. There's this shot of her in a church, she throws her gauntlet into the air, and it comes flying back to her. That's a definition of a reluctant hero to me.

But I never watched the show either. If it showed up on DVD, I'd probably buy it.

I actually watched the pilot on Wednesday and I have no idea why I haven't posted about it sooner (nor why I haven't changed my calender yet).

The series looks promising. I will continue to watch it. Blade still seemed cool, not Snipes cool, but still cool; come on, that's the main reason to watch Blade. However, it looks like Blade will take a back seat to his new female partner. I can't stand these new shows that take something classic and decide to give them a partner. The X-Files did it perfectly, but now every show is trying to have a hot-and-sweaty team couple.

Blade's new partner played Stallone/Caine's Carter in the pilot which led to her death. I gotta say I liked the character, but I found her annoying as hell. Then the show turned "Alias" on me. Now she'll work as an undercover vampire? Ooookay.

Then there's the new Super Vampire. After this I had to say, Blade the Series takes place after Blade I in an alternate universe.
*Blade II never happened, nor will (the Super Vampire vaccine was what created the Reavers in that film)
*Whistler is dead.
*Blade the Series has so far only alluded to the first Blade.

The action was pretty good in the pilot, here's hoping that keeps up. The show looks to be rather on the cheap side once you get over the cool vampire combustion special effects. That may hurt it in the long run, but whatever. TV shows never have good budget s (case in point: compare Firefly to Serenity).

Blade the Series' pilot wasn't as bad as I feared. I think it could spawn a pretty badass series in the vain of Robocop or something. I just hope they shy away from Birds of Prey, X-Files, and Alias which the pilot seemed to borrow heavily from.

Blade's back. Cool

Just a quick semi-off-topic post, was the title of this thread an intentional pun?

I enjoyed most of it, although the first fifteen minutes or so were extremely corny. Overall, pleasantly surprised. It is what it is - nothing emmy worthy, but still entertaining. Pales in comparison to Angel still though.

The female lead was a bit annoying, I agree. I see her more as his connection to the inside than a partner, just like her brother was. I might be arguing semantics there though.

I actually like the concept of a vampire working for the hunters on the inside of vampire society. Sort of reminded me of that PC game I used to play, Vampire, The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Probably all the concepts of vampire culture and such (the need for permission for siring, and the interaction between vampires instead of just humans fighting vamps).

On that note, I thought the guy who played the lead bad vampire did a pretty good job. The blond sidekick of his I kind of liked too, but her acting was a little suspect at times - as was the guy playing Blade.

Blade is played by a guy named Sticky Jones. The end.

I'm sure I'm the only person still watching this show on this forum. However, I was surprised today that "Entertainment Weekly" actually gives the show a positive rating. They tend to be picky with everything.

I'm enjoying the show for what it is. I love the Vampire Ash subplot and the use of the different vampire houses. I do wish that the running subplot of the rogue vampire/cop would move a little faster as it promises nothing but a "Carnivale"-like epic confrontation between him and Blade.

Blade's alright; I like him. He's no Snipes, but most of the shows I watch don't have an African American character given the limelight that Blade has. Jones does do the role justice.

I think my main reason for sticking with Blade: The Series is that it's able to actually explore the Goyer world of vampires that the films set up, but didn't have time to deal with. There's time to slow down and see aspects that are either too rich or intricate for a film should that not deal with the main plot directly. Namely, the Bad Bloods of last week (vampires that were turned by Blade).

Krista's not really bugging me anymore, but I do hope the show injects her with the super serum within in the next few episodes. From there, either she helps Blade defeat a new breed of Super Vampires... or she leads her own group of vampires against both the Houses and Blade. That would be delightful.

Okay, that's my two cents for now.

I've been hearing rumors that "Blade: The Series" could return to SPIKE picking up a few years after season one if the DVD sells well enough. Apparently Spike was very pleased with the show to begin with, but due to cost had to cancel it. DVD sales could result in finding more financing from other sources so it could return for another outing.

Since Blade: The Series doesn't depend on the old sets or even most of its cast, bringing everyone back together is still a possibility. At least more so than giving Firefly or Veronica Mars another season.

Or the DVD is the final note for Blade: The Series. Whichever.

I watched the pilot when it came out on DVD and laughed a lot, but not when they wanted me to. I like the idea of a Blade series, but not that one.
