While it may or may not happen, that future in "Five years lost" just might be inevitable.
Whys that? Well, let's take a look here:
-Sylar now has Candice's illusion powers.
-Even though Nathan's dead, there's still another character with a flying ability. The same applies for the healing factor (Claire's supposed to be alive in the future, and Sylar apparently survived some sort of death. Considering that Adam Monroe might appear again in the series, it's always possible that Sylar would kill him and take his power.)
-There's no way that Niki would just die in that explosion. She's lived through worse.
-All the main characters (except for Nathan) are still alive.
-Even though D.L. is dead, who ever said only HE could walk though walls? Sylar could easily find someone else with the same ability and kill them.
And finally, the last and most convincing reason:
Hiro Nakamura went into the past to help Takezo Kensei (Adam Monroe), which accidentally caused the latter to want to kill off humankind. The Company was around BEFORE he went back, so it was basically an inevitable part of the space-time continuum.
Regardless, this is only a theory. But hey, it may happen!

Except that Niki was "depowered".

And because she was depowered her strength did not work. Case in point with Sylar, because his ability was disable, i have doubts that he gained the illusion ability. Although his main ability is still a little fuzzy, we do know that it has something to do with understanding complicated systems, like the human brain. Perhaps all Sylar needs to do is learn what makes an ability work according to the brain and somehow is able to modify his own. So even if at the time his power was not working, if he remembered the structure or system or whatever, he could still gain the illusion ability. After all, he does have the 'unlimited memory' ability he gained from the waitress.

Hey, you bring up a good point. If Sylar does have the illusion power, that means a regular-joe could gain super powers by doing what Sylar does. ... I think. Maybe. When you play with pseudo-science everything is up in the air.

I really hope they kill Sylar in the next volume. He's too overpowered, and with every power he takes, he becomes even more ridiculously overpowered.
I was hoping they were going to use a plot device where even though he got his main power back, he lost all the ones he had learned with it and he was going to have to start from scratch. Sadly that doesn't seem to be the case.

He does have his telekinesis, however as the old phrase goes:
"If you don't use it you loose it."
Same could be said with Sylar, the telekinesis is his favorite ability and Honestly, how often does he use that metal melting ability anyway. What could happen is he has telekinesis and a few other but lost most of them because of little use. Like the radioactive ability, they are back to square one if he still has that ability.
I wouldn't just kill him off yet, Peter is also overwhelmingly powerful and Heroes need someone to counter him. If Sylar is going out, then it should be in a show down with Peter (something epic like they have been promising us) where Peter is put into a coma and not revived until another insanely powerful villain shows up. There is volume three for you, we better have a Peter vs Sylar showdown

No kidding. That tease in "Five Years Gone" where they clash into each other needs to be fully realized.

I just thought of something, the only way Nikki can survive that explosion is if Hiro teleports her out, which i don't see happening!!!
