Also, the fact that Sutherland actually has the balls to make a 24 movie without any of the supporting players from the early seasons that helped to make the show good/popular sickens me.
Does Kiefer actually really think he can carry a movie on his own? He can't. Hell, no one went to see The Sentinel, in which he played the same damn character he plays on 24, and that had Eva Fucking Longoria in it, not to mention Michael Douglas. What the hell makes makes Kiefer think people'll rush to the box office to see an R-Rated real-time version of it? The show has used just about every terrorist plot twist they can think of, and by every, I mean nuclear bombs and assassination attempts.
Here's my plot predictions for Season 7:
Terrorists try to set off a nuclear bomb, but that's just a cover for a planned assassination, which is itself just a cover for an even bigger bomb, which is just a diversion for several more assassination attempts. Initally, the terrorists are shown to be Chechens, but they're actually being controlled by American Illuminati who are being controlled by the Chinese who are being controlled by the Russians who are being blackmailed by the original Chechens.
Along the way, loyalties will be called into question, Jack employ tactics that clearly violate the Geneva Convention, familiar faces will suddenly resurface and die ten seconds later, and Jack will be forced to go dark several times because he decides he doesn't want to follow orders.
This may sound like a blatant rehash of stuff they've already done, but it isn't. See, next season will take place in a new city, so we'll all be so taken in by the subtle changes in setting that we won't even notice that show has completely transformed itself from unique action thriller to silly pulp trash.

Say what you will, but I still love his early work. Especially "Flashback".
And he's a slightly different character in The Sentinel (which is really a terrible movie). The only real Jack Bauer scene was cut (see DVD). In fact, I've owned it on DVD for a while (having seen it in theaters), but I didn't test it until a couple of weeks ago. Seriously, Sentinel has THE WORST VIDEO TRANSFER I've ever seen. Worst color correction ever! It was also then I realized that I might actually hate Michael Douglas. I'm going to watch "Romancing the Stone" again to test that theory...

I throughly enjoy old school Kiefer: The Lost Boys, Young Guns, Bright Lights Big City, Stand By Me...
But Kiefer wasn't the lead in any of those movies. He's an ensemble player.

Nonetheless, if "Dark City" was all about him, I would've dug it just the same. And I still wish there was more Chester Desmond/Sam Stanley in the world... Wait a minute, for the "24" movie they could TOTALLY bring Chris Isaak as the new head of CTU... And Oliver Platt needs better work, he'd make a fine terrorist!

By starred you mean played the lead antagonist; Greasy Reesy was the real lead (which is what I think Syd's point was).
But that movie was the shit
Back on 24:
Already discussing the finale, I likened the return of Farmer Bauer to the return of the crazy wife killer in season 2. He just popped back up again for no other reason than to resolve his arc. Did Philip really need to come back? And it goes without saying that Buchanan and Hayes were pulling an Almeida/Dessler on us...
Then there's the leftover questions like who's the mole... What happened to Stuart Pressman... and what happened to Logan?

One could argue that Sutherland was more the important character.
Kiefer's character was mentioned as 'striking again' before Reese even began her story arc. He is also the main catalyst in Reese's life, which leads her to complete her 360 character development. And if you look at the stories objectively, Reese could be the real antagonist of the tale, which is how I always saw it.
Note: none of this is to say that Kiefer isn't vastly better when he's doing some sort of Alec Baldwin-esque supporting actor work, but in Freeway, Kiefer was king.
As for 24, I knew before the season began that it would be ridiculous. When long lost fathers and evil brothers start making their way out of the wood work, you know that you're tonguing the bottom of the soap opera plot bin.

But the fact is he's the antagonist. Agent Smith is perhaps more important than Neo in the Matrix films, but he's still the "bad guy".
Same arguments of who is the star can be said for "Flatliners". Kiefer obviously has the best storyline and is top billed on the poster, but watching the movie, Bacon seems to be the real lead with the screen time to match.

A man in Chicago has been arrested for uploading episodes of 24 to LiveDigital.com weeks before they aired. He will face a maximum of three years in prison for stealing the first four episodes of the show and violating copyright restrictions by putting them up on the intarwebs.

Another Degree Men internet thingy. Basically it's a flash comic with Kiefer voicing Jack that takes place before Day One. Doesn't follow the continuity of the comics or books and Kiefer's the only cast member doing it. Whoever they got to play Nina is terrible!!!

Know what would've made season six better? Donald Sutherland. I would've forgiven the season so much if it was him on the platform instead of Zefram Cochrane.

| "Tony's uncertain fate near the end of 'Day 5' left the door open for his return," said executive producer/show-runner Howard Gordon. |
Didn't Jack specifically say Tony was dead last season though, when he confronted his brother? I know it was mentioned at one point. Both men are masters of intel, you'd think at least one of them would have known he was still alive.
Interesting note. Target has the first 5 seasons of 24 on sale last week. The first four seasons were on sale for $25.99, the 5th season was on sale for $19.99. As the newest available season, Day 5 should be the most expensive. The fact that it was the cheapest further supports my claim that it was THE WORST SEASON EVAR.
Day One often goes on sale for $19.99 as well, ostensibly because it's been out so long.
At any rate, I am so there for this season. But if it conflicts with Heroes again, 24 is the one getting taped/torrented.

The movie will never see the light of day. Because the movie has to be made after the show is off the air and at that point Bauer's popularity will have wained enough for it not to be the great idea it was two years ago.

Not necessarily. They keep telling us there's going to be a second X-Files movie, and dammit, it just might happen.

Oh, the X-Files movie IS happening. But will there be a place for Bauer in a non-Bush America? ...Actually, probably. But I would expect a drop in popularity after the show's over. Unless it ends on a cliffhanger, which it better not!
