I watched Naruto in an actual class. The professor was trying to show us why the show has lasted like 1000 episodes vs. the short life of American shows in comparison. Although when you mix present story lines with flashbacks and stock animation it's a bit more feasible to understand why Kim Possible will only last four seasons.

More like 200-something episodes (then there's the Shippuden story 3 yars later in the timeline). Of course, filler is damn guilty of series bloat (looking at you Land of Tea arc).

I was wondering what the hell was with that. What dumbfuck names a region after a beverage. You'll never hear people saying "Oh, shit, it's the Tea ninjas!!!"

Naruto is unusual for a Japanese show, in that it's gone on so long. Unlike American shows, which aspire to run until they get cancelled, Japanese shows are generally setup to have a beginning, middle, and end. They have planned story arcs and whatnot, and most of the best animes end in well under 50 episodes.
This phenomenon is just now starting to surface in America. You have Battlestar Galactica, which is going to end after its next season per its creators' wishes, and you have Lost, which also has a preplanned end.

MAN I hate Naruto.
I had two jackass coworkers who I guess were going to an anime convention or something as naruto charectars.
Well one day they never came in on break, I walk outside and there dressed up as fagninjas fighting with naruto weapon things. Not even funny. They were like serious.

I've never seen Naruto and I likes it like that.
But Naruto is some popular shit. I did a google search and there were well over 53,000,000 hits. When otakus like something it tends to take on a life of it's own.

Not so much with anime... Bleach will be as long, DBZ was almost 300 episodes (450ish if you count DB, and 500+ if you count DBGT), One Piece is well past 200, and Detective Conan cleared 400 some time ago.
There are a ton of 13/26 episode series, but to see something go 80-90 episodes or longer isn't a complete rarity with anime. With j-dramas though, definitely. I think the longest one I've ever seen is the one with Gackt that's planned for 50ish episodes.

It's a shame Wolf's Rain ended so quickly. That was one anime I was actually into.

DBZ is a bad example though, as it sucks ass.
The original Dragon Ball was good, but after that it was all downhill.

I've only seen the original and it's shadowed by that DB "I look like i'm taking a crap when i power up" Z madness.
Dragon ball will be over 9000! before we know it.

Inuyasha's past 200 too, iirc. |
167 (or 169?) is the end, unless they're gonna adapt the manga that follows, but I haven't heard anything.

I'm confused by your statements.
Dragon Ball is over, long over.
Dragon Ball ended in 1989, Dragon Ball Z ended in 1996, and Dragon Ball GT ended in 1997. And that's the anime. The manga ended in 1995.
DBZ aired first in America, but DBZ was not the first series. Dragon Ball was. The one where Goku is a kid. It ends with him beating Piccolo in the World Martial Arts Tournament, iirc. Then DBZ picks up a few years later or something like that.

DBZ just seems like it has OVER 9000! episodes because a single battle would last an entire season.

I was thinking of the Dragon Ball universe as a whole, putting together Dragon Ball the first with Dragon Ball Z, Z is essentially what takes place after the First so you could argue that The Dragon Ball franchise is one long running series but with chapters, such as the first original Dragon Ball being chapter 1 and DBZ being the most resent chapter. Counting all the Dragon Ball series together, their has to be close to 9000 episodes. (realistically maybe 500)
Now a series that needs to end is Pokemon. I've heard it is still pushing out episodes and Season 1 was okay but after that it has just been going on way too long. And with the same logic I established with Dragon Ball, there must be a shitload of episode for Pokemon as a whole.

I think DB is 153.
DBZ is right around 300.
DBGT is 64.
13 DBZ movies, 2 or 3 DB movies, a DBGT movie, and I think there's TV specials as well (Bardock, History of Trunks, dunno if there's others).
So whatever that adds up to.
