Matt & Trey have signed a three year contract extension for South Park, for three more 14 episode seasons, bringing the total season count up to 15 and keeping new episodes on the air up through 2011.
The deal is worth 75 million, and also gives them 50% of the profits on South Park digital media, such as episodes on iTunes and cellphone downloadables as well as 50% of the ad revenue that South Park generates for the Comedy Central website.

I think it's better now than it was back then. I can't watch a lot of episodes from the first 2-3 seasons anymore cuz it's mostly just fart jokes. The show has gotten a lot more clever.

Yeah, I only ever really watched those seasons and it got pretty old. I've seen some newer episodes and they have funny parts, but I hate how fucking preachy the creators are. Although hey if I had a hugely popular medium through which to convey my own ideas, I'm sure I'd be doing the same thing.

I have to agree w/Syd. Matt + Trey have gotten a lot more clever these past few seasons and it feels as though they are more comfortable show casing their 'talent' thru their cartoon. Some episodes are still "WTF" episodes (oprah's minge comes to mind) but others are very funny + well done. A lot better than the first couple of seasons.
Granted they are rather preachy, but this type of preachiness i tolerate vs Michael Moore preachiness. Know what I mean?

Despite being a Towelie-based episode, I was still somewhat disappointed by that one. But yeah I agree that the vast majority of recent episodes are very good.

I don't watch TV much but 2 years ago I was loving South Park until a bunch of dumbass kids at my high school at the time kept quoting it over and over in discussion classes as if they said all that smart stuff.

100% agree. I never watch it on a regular basis and at this point I'd be going out of my way to. Plus, there's so many other shows to watch on DVD for me to ever care about buying them. And downloading seems like such a chore. I see they don't need my viewership to make money anyway.

Confession: I did say that line to someone on Monday (along with "I'm wishing you cancer. Cancer in the brain!").

I'm so glad I started paying attention to South Park again. The political and social satire is so spot on (Well, 99% of the time, anyway).

I think South Park crested the top of its curve a few years ago and is now just starting to get bland and repetitive, making every episode about the newest news headline (which I know they did before, but they also off-set with character driven stories) or just being plain vicious to other properties to try to garner attention (no matter how many times you argue it Syd, the Family Guy South Park episode is nothing more than an attack on Family Guy. Also the 300 parody episode was nothing but vicious.)

Wrapped within a very poignant freedom of speech message in the face of religious over-sensitivity and double-standards.

Yeah, but Syd and I always argue whether or not the Family Guy aspect of that storyline is light-hearted ribbing or mean-spirited muck slinging. Personally, I think they're just a little bit jealous of a show that stole their thunder by being another really borderline stretching of what is acceptable on TV animated show that is now blowing their creation out of the water (cmon, it is: South Park may have been here first but Family Guy is way more popular and will probably still be so when South Park is in its grave.)

Family Guy's popularity is already waning because their storylines are unraveling, and jokes go on too long. A large chunk of the public commonly says that it was funnier before it came back, me included. Hell, I think it was all downhill after S1.
The dig at Family guy was definitely antagonistic, but they tempered it by saying that at least it's not "up its own ass with messages".

Personally, I think you're just WAY too defensive of stuff you like. I love Family Guy and I loved 300, and I still found the South Park parodies of both to be hilarious. The problem here is that you love Family Guy the way Southerners love The Jesus. And when Family Guy or The Simpsons or South Park make a joke about The Jesus, it doesn't matter how funny or clever it is, those Southerners get all uppity and riled because someone dared to make a joke about The Jesus. And see, that's what you're like with Family Guy. You seriously need to relax. Nothing is so sacred that it can't be satirized.
Secondly, you can't really compare the success of South Park and the success of Family Guy. One is on a network, the other is on cable. One has a clearly defined season that has The Simpsons for a lead-in and gets advertised during the Super Bowl, the other has a 14 episode season that airs in two 7 episode segments during random spring and fall months and you just have to kinda know when it's on. If you want to compare South Park to another cartoon, compare it to anything on Adult Swim. Unsuprisingly, it draws higher ratings than any of the Adult Swim shows.
And I really don't think the South Park guys are jealous. Maybe they are, I don't know. But they have a pretty sweet deal going right now. They only have to make 14 episodes a year and they get a ridiculous paycheck for it. Every few years they say they don't want to do the show anymore so they can focus on making movies, and every few years Comedy Central throws more and more money at them to stay, because the vast majority of their programming sucks while South Park still draws big ratings.

I liked the 300 parody. Besides, Xerxes being a woman was only a small step farther than the actual movie took it.

Uh-huh...and where in the Family Guy and 300 episodes are they being funny and clever? Oh and calm down dude.

So basically, it's the opposite of Simpsons?
I only occasionally watch South Park, however when I do it's fucking hilarious. Can't wait till the newer episodes come out.
