An Appreciation by Grampa Fuddy:

Dr. Demento recently announced that he'll be ending his show in October. If you don't know who he is, he's a DJ specializing in funny, silly, strange, and/or offbeat comedy and novelty music. He's been hosting it in various iterations since 1970 and is perhaps best known for making Weird Al Yankovic a household name. I first heard of him when I first got into Weird Al, but had no clue when or what station he was on. Fortunately I had a couple friends in my scout troop who had some of his compilation CDs, so I got to hear non-Al songs like "Wet Dream" by Kip Addotta, "Rusty Chevrolet" by Da Yoopers, and "Shaving Cream" by Benny Bell. Years later I happened to be listening to 97.9 FM The Loop in Chicago, when the Dr. Demento Show came on and the first song he played was the "Happy Happy Joy Joy" song from Ren & Stimpy. However a short time later in 2010 he left terrestrial radio as many stations had dropped his show by that point, but continued as an online streaming show. Due to the fact many of the songs played are copyrighted, each episode is behind a $3 paywall (which is totally worth it IMO). His website has a database of every song ever played on the show, so it's a handy way to find funny music!

Aww I hadn't heard about this!

Good for him. What a helluva career.
