I got this guys. I believe I am qualified to make decisions for a multibillion-dollar company. Obviously Nintendo just needs to expand into the health care industry. Perhaps they can develop some sort of holographic doctor that can diagnose and offer medical advice as well as prescribe drugs and recommend treatments. I am thinking maybe they can call it Dr. Mario or something similar. Think of all the money they could make in the US if they just abandoned the silly games and focused on health care! That's a 3 trillion dollar market for health care compared to a paltry 25 - 30 billion dollar market for video games. If only Nintendo would just listen to the people who play their games!

You just reminded me of their aborted Wii Vitality Sensor.

I think Nintendo has been approached many times about getting serious about health care issues, but they just seem to want to keep playing games.

For those concerned about Nintendo's coffers: Their annual investor meeting took place today and they reported $11 billion (1.1 trillion yen) in total net assets, which is only slightly down from the last few years (no doubt due in part to the share buyback Syd Lexia mentioned). Someone phone the coroner.

Nintendo was worth $18 billion April of 2012. I'd say that's still reason to be concerned that they are approaching half of what they were worth just two years ago.

That value was unsustainable though. They just were never going to pull a Wii twice in a row.

Tell me if this is a brilliant or brutal idea...

I found it odd that Nintendo created the WiiU tablets when they already have a successful, tablet-like portable gaming device in the 3DS. So if Nintendo wants to use a "smart controller" they should design it so the 3DS can link with the WiiU and basically double as a tablet-like WiiU controller. This has a lot of benefits:

-You can bundle the WiiU with the 3DS so people will get excited to get 2 systems in 1.
-You can also sell a cheaper WiiU that doesn't include controllers for people who already own a 3DS. The illusion of a lower price for a new console will probably help sales.
-People no longer need to own a console + 4 controllers for multiplayer. You have a console + 1 3DS then all your buddies just bring their 3DS over when they want to play with you. (I suppose you could still sell the crappy WiiU tablets if people want multiple controllers)
-The 3DS can also store your WiiU gamer profile so it goes wherever you go.

The biggest problem is that the 3DS likely doesn't currently have the technology built-in to function as a motion controlled WiiU controller. But I think it has potential in the future. Am I nuts?

Sounds feasible to me. It's certainly not unprecedented, what with GBA-Gamecube connectivity, although I understand that was a failure. I'm certainly not including Four Swords Adventures in my upcoming The Legend Of Zelda binge.

It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it would work out. If the 3DS was designed around the same time as the Wii U, it might have been feasible, but there's no way you're syncing them up now. The Wii U controller is effectively a portable system as it is, unless I understand it wrong.

Wouldn't shock me to see this kind of functionality with whatever portable system Nintendo comes out with next, though.

I've walked away from the console mid-game, tablet in hand, more than enough times to know that it's not portable.

Every attempt at "connectivity" Nintendo has tried has failed.

You do. You can barely leave the room with it, gotta be within range of the console.

Also really, the 3DS is flimsy as fuck and motion controls have historically sucked dick for it. Does anyone wanna use that for an actual controller? Be real.
