This is a thread to discuss all the cool games we would gather around and watch other people play and enjoy the experience. These are games that can get a crowd of people behind you. Games like Viewtiful Joe. Watch the action of uppercutting two enemies and killing them in fast motion before they hit the ground. And don't forget God Hand which proves everyone can get down watching fatties get stomped, store roofs collapsing, and launching punks out of sight with blazing kicks.

I am totally fascinated watching people play Resident Evil 4. Not through online videos but in-person. Watching one particular person play the village stage by constantly stopping and looking before approaching made me cognizant on the wise decision to remove the binoculars to prevent this kind-of boring 'land surveyor' play. Super Mario Brothers. was also amusing watching my parents play. I dubbed my dad's playing '1,0001 Ways to Die'. It's fascinating watching amateurs play these games -- I have even seen pure glee on the faces of people watching famous celebrities in Japan play Super Mario Bros. for the first time. Watching people play gives you a fresh look at the game.

Do you ever take interest in watching others play? Are you still fascinated to watch people play games at kiosks? What games out there have you seen audio/visual excitement from others recently?

UPDATE 1 - Discussing least favorite genre of games to watch versus most favorable to watch.

The onlooker effect to be brought up in another update.

UPDATE 2 - The Onlooker Effect section post added. Discuss below.

I have absolutely no interest in watching someone else play a game. Maybe a fighting game or something? But even that gets old fast.

Watching my brother play used to be a favorite pastime of mine. These days, I sometimes watch his girlfriend do that.

I don't care for hack and slash-style games, but I watched my brother play Metal Gear Rising. It looks awesome and it's fun to watch but I still wouldn't want to play it myself.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

I can't think of a game that I can actually enjoy watching someone play, but I can say that trying trying to watch someone play any Elder Scrolls game is about the same as watching Grandma knit a quilt. Even back when I used to be stoned all the time I could never find interest in watching someone wandering around looking for herbs and whatnot.

I guess the main game I enjoy watching someone else play would be some of the newer versions of Fight Night or UFC.

I watched my brother playing videogames a lot when we were living together, especially Demons Souls and Dark Souls wich are probably his favorite games.

I was over doing laundry the other day at my Mom's and my brother was playing that Walking Dead game. it was kind of fun to watch especially when it started getting glitchy. There was a point on a train where two people were talking to his character and all the sudden one just vanished into thin air instead of walking away. I was like "Did he just bust out his invisibility cloak?" and a few seconds later he walked back in the door of the train and my brother goes "Nope just apparated a few feet away." Plus it was fun helping him choose which dialog stuff to select.

Sometimes if I am really bored I drive around random streets and use my binoculars to watch people play games in their living rooms. It sucks now because it's mostly people playing Call of Duty games and that is boring as fuck to watch.

The next question which @am*d inspired is what genre of games are your absolute least favorite to watch. In my case that would easily be the sports genre (EA Games). The worst are games like soccer, baseball, and cricket; the best sports games being tennis and basketball -- the best sport game to watch ever is Super Mario Strikers. The golf games are really boring as well to watch but they always have phenomenal music to chill to as a spectator.

Which leads me to a theory that if you are painfully bored watching a game you won't enjoy controlling the avatars on the screen if you do get to put in inputs.

sports games are great to watch amongst a group of friends (i.e. having a tournament of sorts) and drinking.

drinking makes anything great to watch actually.

I am the best StarFox 64 player I have ever heard of in the world outside of the internet, and my roommate is the worst StarFox player you can imagine. Watching him play causes me physical pain.

My stepson has this almost OCD thing while playing RE4. Every single time he picks up a new item he would go into the case and rearrange everything, every single time. I think maybe he only does that because he wants to put off having to fight the scary townsmen.

This reminds me of the one time my mother tried to play DKC for SNES.
She died at the first enemy, that runs in semi-slow-motion towards you.

The onlooker effect is the impact of someone's presence on your game experience. Have you ever played a game with someone watching who made the experience notably worse or better?

My story of onlooker effect involves my first time playing WiiU at the mall. I finally got my hands on the controller and was navigating through some level in ZombiU. I told my dad to watch as I entered the sewer. Walking down a dark narrow path I encountered a female zombie. I gave her a good whack with my cricket bat. My dad let out "My God!! You're hitting that woman." I explained that she was a zombie and gave her another whack. I could feel a look of disgust behind me. Still she wasn't dead and I hit her again. It felt as if I was doing some real domestic violence -- as if I was actually doing something wrong in a virtual world. Each subsequent hit no longer felt like pleasurable domination but somehow like an excessive police brutality force. Well that zombie bitch ended up killing me anyway and I walked away disappointed but humored at the experience.
