I hate the gun control debate. It's quite possibly the most tired, boring, overdone debate in all of politics. It also accomplishes the least, as before I go into that debate with either side, I know exactly what they're going to say and that I'm not going to change anyone's mind by the end. Generally speaking, I try to avoid debating it all together because it's not an issue I'm super passionate about, nor one that I agree with liberals or conservatives on.
So, all that being said, I actually don't mind the President's move so much. For Democrats especially, accusations of tyranny and malice are always thrown around when they touch the gun issue. By bringing in the families of Sandy Hook victims, they remind people that they're doing this because of the real human toll gun violence takes on people, and not because we want to heard Americans into death camps or some malarkey. It is a stunt, but I'd only accept that as a criticism if assholes like Ted Nugent and Wayne LaPierre didn't make a publicity tour in every town a shooting occurred in to promote gun rights before the victims are even cold. All's fair in love and war.
I'll let you decide for yourselves (as I have no doubt that every single one of you has already) what the solution is, but I'm just defending the use of the faces. This is definitely an area where the President and I don't see eye to eye, but I'll leave it at that.
