I've lived with good friends on multiple occasions. It never ends well.

Gotta make sure your friends are clear on how responsible they need to be. If they stop being so, subtly (maybe not so much) hint on getting other roommates soon.
I guess I'll find out for myself if/when I move into an apartment with people.

Well my problem is that I'm too nice, I'm too forgiving and I'm too easily guilt tripped. All of which they took advantage of. That's finished now though, they say the wrong fucking thing to me now and they get ANGER.

Texas is cheap, and we have a lot of jobs...
I hope you can get this resolved. Is your name on the lease at all, or was it just understood that you were a third roommate?
Good luck!

Good question. You don't want to get stuck owing a chunk of that money owed to the landlord, BZ.

I'm not owing the landlord shit, I already went to him, told him they were the reason we're always late, they stole money from me, that I'd be moving out and that from now until then, I'd be paying him my portion of rent directly and the rest was their fucking problem. But related to that, the landlord said since all three of us are on the lease, I need them to sign a form consenting to let me take my name off it. My question is, if they refuse, what are my options? Because I'm leaving one way or another and I will jump through any hoop necessary to do so.

Just go to your roommates and say "You guy have wanted me to move all this time, here sign this saying I can get off the lease and I'll leave". Simple as that.

Well that's how it will most likely go down, I just want to know what sort of legal options I have if they refuse. I seriously doubt they will, but if they want to spite me or something...

Seeing how they've been acting so far, I don't think wanting to spite you or fuck you over in some other way is completely out of the picture.

I'd open the conversation like Josh Woodyz said, "you guys have wanted me to leave this all this time, just sign this release form and i'm out." I'd start that way, and if they don't, then i'd go back to you landlord and see what your options are.
That just goes to show the importance of looking the bill over yourself, you don't know how many times it's happened where roommates over charge the people living with them, to scam a few bucks. I hope you find another place to stay. Whenever i've lived in apartments i've always looked at the bill, it's not a awkward thing to ask.

I would be very careful. I know that California has more stringent laws than most states but I found myself in a situation a few years ago where a roommate of my suddenly went off the deep end and moved out on me with zero notice.
I was pretty pissed off but figured that I would just continue paying my end per usual and that the landlord would just have to take her to court. Doesn't work that way. When rent doesn't get paid for whatever reason, they can go after each leaser for the full (remaining) amount of the lease. As in if you have 6 monthes left at 1000 a month, each person gets sued for 6000 and gets an eviction. Renters get a pretty damn good deal on their end and they will win in court 98 percent of the time.
I ended up just finding a new roommate to cover the abandoned half of the rent and it was no big deal. But just moving out on your roommates suddenly might be a bad idea, in that they could take you to court and at the least you will pay your end eventually and at the worst you could owe your end multiplied by the amount of renters!
Of course they could just find another person too but they kinda seem like the type to go full drama.
