I was initially for teams with members being 2-5. Jeebus brought up some points about this that may cause problems, the reasoning for which include:
| Quote: |
The larger team is winning be default, as everyone votes for themselves
While some people will vote for the underdog because they're the underdog, there are more people who will just vote for whichever team campaigns more. A team of 5 will invariably be able to campaign more than a team of 2.
There will always be a lot of people with the mentality "I will vote for whatever team Drew Linky (for example) is on." The team with more members, in all probability, will have more of these guaranteed votes. This means that instead of a battle starting 5-3 (for example) based on the team sizes, it may now start 15-9 before any campaigning has happened, or really before the thread is even posted. |
I don't want to be subject of a shit storm for making a decision no one likes, so I'll leave it up for you guys. Should there be a required number of members for each team (I'll settle a remainder somehow) or not?

When FNJ and I are actually able to come down on the same side of an argument, that's a pretty good sign that it should be obviously correct.

Well, not necessarily. That just means you both feel like minded about something. I'll go with whichever argument people like best.
Can I safely assume you and FNJ are participating this year? If not, it makes our arguing kind of pointless.

Don't answer, it's a trick question, no means yes too. Apparently even if you specifically say you're not going to participate if the Forum Battle has its current rules, Drew_Linky will still add you to the list.

I honestly don't even know why I am posting right now, let alone why I am feeling the need to contribute to this discussion. Do not rely on my participation.

Two-person teams worked extremely well. Larger teams kind of did not. I'd limit the team sizes.

Is five too big? I liked the way it worked out last year, with only four.
I think I'm going to do four.

I think that everyone should either be on their own or there should be a size limit for teams. The number I would pick is 3.
If we do teams, I think the teams should be assigned randomly from the full list of participants once the sign up period ends. I think if that was done, it would encourage people to communicate with and cooperate with people they might normally not. It may even bring about a revival around here in terms of people contributing to discussions.
Let's bring people together instead of sticking to the cliques.
Now, everyone hug!

I'd think teams of two would work the best. Maybe three to offset that chance that someone won't put in any work on their team forcing their partner to do all the work. Then again my opinion probably doesn't matter since I likely won't be participating this year.

Random teams would be kind of interesting, actually. Something I always kinda wanted to do.

Here's an idea. Now it may sound crazy at first, but it could be fun. Instead of team limits, we should have letter limits. Example, say the letter limit is 32. That means as many people can be on a team so long as all the letters in their forum names combined do not exceed 32 letters. Let's say I was on a team with Drew Linky and @om*d:
sidewaydriver=13
Drew Linky=9
@om*d=5
All together=27
So Beach Bum comes along and wants to join our team but we can't let him because he adds 8 letters, bringing our total to 35. However, Preng asks if he could join and we can allow him because he brings our total to 32. Doesn't that just sound like a fun clusterfuck?

Made me laugh like a motherfucker.
Also, I like the idea of randomizing teams. Will do!
Team size is going to be three or four. What do you guys think is better?

Why are you letting everyone else dictate how you run this thing, Drew? You were selected because of your natural instincts for this type of thing. Do what YOU feel is best for the competition.
Did Mick Jagger ever ask his audience how he should sing? Did Michelangelo ever consult with some random assholes to get advice on the layout of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel? Did Einstein ask his mommy if E really did equal mc²? NO.
Fuck everyone else. We trust you.

I'm not asking because I don't know how to run this properly (owait, yes I am) but because I want it to be as fun as possible. I'm asking everyone these things so that when the time comes everyone knows what they're in for and they'll enjoy it to the utmost.
