Santorum seems to be pulling ahead sadly.

That momentum will come to an end soon enough. The Maine Caucus is next, which I'd actually bet in Santorum's favor. He seems to do well in Caucus states. After that, though, Arizona, Michigan and Ohio are up and they're all strong Romney states with lots of delegates.

Well another squeak victory by Romney. This is the most depressing primary.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see you guys broker a convention.

If that would result in a better candidate than what we've had to choose from yet, I'm all for it (except for the implied disenfranchisement of the voters).

Is anyone else getting a good laugh from Santorum's little hellfire & brimstone speech from four years ago? This is exactly the reason I've always been against the guy. Somehow everyone forgot he's such a religious zealot in their quest for an alternative to Romney.
Man, this entire primary has been one gigantic farce. I think my party is in a transitional period as we wait for our younger stars to gain more experience...

I think the fact that Romney is having so much trouble beating him speaks volumes about his ability to connect with people. Honestly, if he's going to lose the primary to a guy like Rick, his odds of beating Obama were probably pretty slim the whole time.
I still don't necessarily think that's going to happen, though. It'll all depend on Michigan and Arizona next week.

Well, it looks like Romney is going to win this thing after all, in no small part because of the "shellacking" he gave Santorum last night. That's good news for you guys because Romney is the best chance you have at taking on Obama. What's bad news for you guys is that Romney is your best hope of taking on Obama.
If I were a Republican, I'd have been praying for enough Santorum victories, and subsequent Gingrich victories and Romney victories to broker a convention. Then at least you'd have a prayer of nominating someone who wasn't one of these bums.

My interest in this falls around Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
Of the Republican candidates I think I'd vote for Ron Paul. You could already turn this whole thing into an entertaining drinking game. It might make it watchable too.
What if Obama doesn't run? Then what? Everyone is basing their whole campaign on an ability to beat Obama. He can stagger his Terms.
If I were Obama I'd drop out near the last minute and watch them scramble to prepare for an all new Democratic Nominee.

Obama won't drop out and sadly none of these Republicans have any hope in hell of beating him, unless he really fucks up. He'd probably have to murder someone on live TV to lose to any of the Republican nominees though, and I don't see him doing that. The saddest thing is the Republican party is just sitting on their hands and not looking for someone who could beat him and are just letting these guys keep barely squeaking by each other.

Ron Paul is the only guy who can turn the country around at this point. He's definitely got my vote in the primary. If he's not the nominee I'll write him in, everyone else seems to be pushing for endless wars.

I'll repost what I did on another forum. My predictions for the evening/rest of the race
Gingrich will handily win Georgia. Paul won't win much of anything. Most of the contests are pretty cut and dry, but the real one to keep an eye on is Ohio. If Romney wins decisively, it's time for Santo to drop. If Santo wins, it's still advantage Romney. Personally, I predict a very narrow Romney win, based mostly on his momentum. Barring any major gaffes, I think that should keep. Romney will be the nominee, even if Santorum wins Ohio. An Ohio win for Santorum will drag this thing out longer, but it won't change the outcome.
Romney's biggest win of the day is going to be Georgia. He won't win in the traditional sense, but winning it will give Gingrich a rationale for staying in the race, which is bad news for Santorum. If Gingrich had dropped out after Florida, the boost that his votes would have given to Santorum would have given him Michigan and put him really close in Arizona. Gingrich's continued presence in the race is only good for Romney.

Well, it was nice to vote in a primary that actually mattered for once, yesterday. These contests are usually decided by the time they get here, in Illinois. Hoping that it will prove decisive in trying to end this contest. Unfortunately, the other candidates seem to want to continue even though they mathematically cannot get 1,144 delegates unless they sweep the rest of the contests. Santorum is even sounding spiteful and angry like Gingrich now. What's the point of running if you're only in it anymore in order to try to deny someone else from winning? Not honorable at all.

I think that pretty much sums up the GOP race right now. Nobody but Romney can win, but the other two are sticking around just to fuck him over.
In all seriousness, last night kicked a lot of ass for me. My candidate won with a 50 point lead over his opponent. And because I essentially put together the voter contact and GOTV mechanisms that won the election by myself, I'm getting promoted. I'm being made the deputy campaign manager so that I can be trained and made the campaign manager in full by the end of July. So yeah...pretty good primary night for me.

I haven't really been following this, it only ever gets like one page in the Guardian in the national news section. From what i've heard Santorum is a retard and this Romney character was doing the best so i looked him up.

Businessman as President, Oh boy. As an outsider (whose view is meaningless) doesn't seem like the best person to win. I will read his policies now.
Also Newt can't win because he's called Newt.

That takes a while. Because he's run as a liberal senate candidate, a moderate governor and now a conservative presidential candidate, Willard has been on both sides of pretty much every major issue in US politics. He has no core values, so far as I can tell.
