Also, the thing about Obama's vacations is that they're very ill-timed. They're always when major shit is going down. I expect the guy to take off for Christmas, but image-wise, it looks bad when the Korean peninsula is in turmoil & Congress is dicking around with the payroll tax thing. Just because Congress is lazy and isn't in session in August doesn't mean Obama can't get anything done.

I also mentioned the golf thing. He's constantly at the links. Bush made the wise image decision and stopped going during the wars. During the middle of an economic crisis, it just looks bad for Obama to be so into his golf game.

Syd already took my point about Camp David & Crawford. Dubya & Reagan get criticized for their vacation time, but much of that was at Camp David and their respective ranches. which were decked out so well technologically, it was as if they were at the white house. It didn't cut down reaction time to crises & they were able to work just as efficiently. They were practically working vacations. I certainly concede that Dubya took too many vacations overall. Presidents in general take too many vacations in my opinion. Syd is certainly right that relatively they don't, and they do deserve it for how they're on call all the time, but when you're working for the people in that government capacity, and especially as the leader of the entire nation, it just looks bad to take vacations during crises while regular Americans have to deal with their crappy jobs.

I just wish the media criticized the presidents' vacation time equally, regardless of party.

Huh? You apparently haven't been paying attention to the site in a while.

And your explanation about why you dislike Obama's vacation sounds extremely biased, slanted, and a bit irrational. That's not the norm for your posts, I must say. Don't go on vacation while there's a crisis? There's always a crisis. It's not like he's going to ignore the entire world while on vacation, man.

They don't criticize it (except FOX News, who blows it way out of porportion) because he hardly takes vacation time, particularly in comparison to Presidents in history. It would look silly and unprofessional to attack his vacation time because it's a non-story.

Considering your republican party application image, and your ramadan statement, I think you're forgetting about your own bias. We all have them.

There's no need for insults.

My comments were made based in humor and satire, obviously. Your comments were not meant to be a joke or sardonic. You seem to really think the media not harping on Obama's 82 days off in three years and him taking off time around Christmas is a really big deal. It isn't.

My "biased, slanted, irrational" comment still stands because it's addressing a completely serious point from you. If you were blasting Obama's vacation time in a joking way, then my comments could justifiably be considered insulting.

I just see it as ironic, compared to the coverage of Dubya, especially when the costs of everything are highlighted nowadays (Drudge Report is obsessive about that). Plus, I was really in a complaining mood yesterday, so this morning I'm stuck defending this ill-thought out comment of mine whose argument I know has holes in it, which was more of an afterthought to a post highlighting some interesting articles I read yesterday, lol. Embarrassed

I'm kinda glad I can't vote yet. I don't like any of these choices.

Welcome to adulthood. That's all being an adult is, being forced to make a choice between options, none of which are ideal or anything you'd like.

So it's like being a teenager, except it matters?

This fucking sucks.

I would just like to say that yes the media has attacked bush countless times and has conversely praised Obama in the past. On this forums though this is far less so. So liberal complaints and conservative complaints will come off as attacks on forum members less than the news media.

We'll see what happens in Iowa today. Santorum's recent surge has disturbed me, as I'm not that enthused with the social conservative wing of the party. Paul still placing well in the polls troubles me as well.

Anything to make the Iowa Caucus less significant, though. The caucus system seems pretty messed up from what I can tell. No secret ballot. That kind of thing doesn't seem on the up and up.

Also, there's rumors the voting system might get hacked somehow. That would be a fiasco.

I actually like the Caucus coming first. It gives underdog candidates a chance to prove themselves. Obama, for instance, couldn't have gotten the traction he did without an Iowa victory. It just gives the non-establishment choice a chance.

I've heard a great deal about caucus proceedings. It's different, but it's not undemocratic by any means.
