After compiling all the data and sending it to NASA for thorough analysis, we now know with reasonable certainty who won this year's SNES challenge. In a shocking twist of events, they've determined that the first place finisher is the dark horse contestant, lavalarva! I was a bit skeptical of their conclusion at first, but they have assured me that the math checks out. Coming in a close second (by some standards) is Ghandi, with Valdronius placing third.
1st place: lavalarva - 92 points
2nd place: Ghandi - 70 points
3rd place: Valdronius - 57 points
Congratulations to the winner! This one is for the naysayers who think that someone who spends five times as much time as everyone else combined working on these things doesn't stand a chance.
And now the thanks. Thank you Syd for the permission to run this thing once again. Thank you Vald for stickying and merging. Thanks Douche for coming up with a couple good challenges. Thanks Fernin of course for the challenge ideas, uploading the winning videos, and helping judge. Thank you to the contestants who participated to some extent, even though many of you quit after a week or two. All five of you who submitted something every round are true heroes. It's a shame that most people don't share your level of stick-to-itiveness.
That about does it for this one. I know this thing might drag on a bit, and too many people lose interest too fast. If you have any suggestions for ways these championships can be improved upon, feel free to post them. Share your thoughts, praise, and criticisms below.

I did have fun. However next year my goal will be to make higher submissions. Get higher on the board.

My suggestion for keeping people in would be for the champion to be as much of an ass as possible so people try to beat him and shut him up.
Then again I'm not very good at being an asshole so I guess that'll never happen.

Oh, don't sell yourself short. People just need to talk with you in real time in the chat to get the full effect.
Great job, as usual, running this thing NS and Fern. I know you put a lot of hours into prepping all the challenges and creating save states (or hacked tracks). I wish I could have participated as much as the NES Challenge; hopefully that one rolls around when I'm in a more predictable routine. Funny wrap-up post, by the way.
Congrats, lava. You definitely deserve the win based on your dedication nearly every week. I would have liked to have given you more competition, but so often the choice came between sleeping or playing a game I had never heard of/played before and would require hours of practice just to get to a competitive level. I believe I chose wisely.

Congratulations to 2011 SNES Champion lava and thanks to NS and Fern for running the competition. Hopefully, next year I will have my shit together so I can actually submit something.

Congrats to lavalarva!
I had fun, even though I was never able to beat lava and get a 1st this time around Thanks to Not Sure and Fernin for running this and making interesting Challenges every week. I really enjoy getting to play against other people and I get to every few months with these.
I don't really have any ideas to change or improve this since the 10 week structure is something I'm used to now. Why was the dropped score added? I think it's pretty new as of the last Challenge we had.
I admit, I'm looking forward to some time off from this thing. This was first week I didn't have something to submit by the end of the week in a long time. Feels good and I needed the break

How about some kind of team ranking along with the normal, individual standings? Like, teams of 4, the 3 best results every week score for that team.
It encourages teamwork, as you want to help the other members of the team to score higher, and people with usually no chance of winning can still shoot for the team championship.
If people still stop submitting after two weeks that won't work very well though. And I don't know how difficult it might be to organize.
I'd say it's worth looking into. Klim is supposed to have thought out a bunch of ideas and might know how to work this out

Probably because of SNES Championship 2010, where Vald had 5 winning runs, LiteYear had 2, but Vald completely bombed the Kirby round. With the dropped score rule, he would have won by 1 instead of losing by 1.
It lets you have a crappy run on a game you're not good at (Sim City :O)
It hasn't been relevant since then however.

Congrats to lavalarva on your dominating victory!
I'm impressed at how well I did this year. 5th place finish isn't that bad.

Guess I'll make a thanks post too
Not Sure : For running this challenge, making awesome F-Zero tracks, and setting the bar extremely high with his unofficial runs, making me try harder to reach them.
Fernin : For running this challenge, uploading my videos when I didn't feel like it, and having the same email address for every championship
Ghandi : For always trying to make good runs (beating Ghandi means you rank well, and it's not as stupidly hard as beating NS) and for helping me spam the chat with challenge discussions.
Klimbatize : For rooting for me since week 1. By the way, prepare yourself for the next NES Challenge, I have to avenge my second place
Valdronius : For being my rival the first 3 weeks by doing really well and taking the lead. I didn't want you to pull a Klimbatize, so I took this more (perhaps too) seriously from then on.
BlazingGlory : For being that guy who ranks 4th and just misses the podium :p Getting a podium is completely pointless but I still find that funny.
SSNintendo, Mr. Spidersquid and Slayer1 : For submitting every round. While you started really slowly, you proved in the last few rounds that you can do well. Put more effort in the early rounds and I believe you can rank pretty good.
And thanks to Syd for allowing these Championships in the first place, and being the admin of an awesome forum.

Everyone here is an incompetent nincompoop who defiles the greatness that is the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. I declare that had I joined the competition, all opponents would have been destroyed by such a ridonkulous margin that they would have dropped out by the first week. In fact, such splendorous feats would have been done with the computer monitor turned off.
No, but seriously, well done, folks. This challenge and thread is Preng-approved.

That would add some spice to it, but seeing the reactions during a Forum Battle that is built for that exact reason...pretty sure people's heads would explode if that spilled over to these Challenges.
So yeah, no chance.
