Went to a pawn shop a few days ago and found Mortal Kombat and Sonic 1 for 50 cents each. It surprised me since SNES games were listed for $4 and NES games were listed for $2. I thought since you never really find any really good games at a pawn shop anymore the Sega games would at least have the same respect as the others. Oh well, still quite the steal for me.

I couldn't name more than 10 Genesis games worth more than 50 cents.

Sonic 1 and Mortal Kombat probably aren't worth more than 50 cents. Particularly Sonic. They're very common games.

For whatever reason, the NES and SNES have caught on as "collecting" items; where the Genesis has not. And when I mean collecting I don't mean as in look how many awesome games I have to play, it is more like the 40 year old Virgin type collecting.

I think the fact that the boxes for nes and snes were usually destroyed or thrown in the garbage, make the complete games for those versions much more valuable, which in turn, drives the price of the other games up as well. However, I collect both Nes, Snes and Genesis games, and I would LOVE to find games at that price here where I usually have to pay like 10$ for a really cheap game (and more like 30$ for a decent one like Gunstar Heroes).

I'm really more about collecting games that are fun to play, and Sonic and Mortal Kombat are fun in their own right. Too bad I didn't find Shining Force or something like that.
