The game play is similar to a modern hack and slash such as God of War, but the world is more similar to 3D Legend of Zelda games.
There are puzzles, some small, some huge. There are bosses, most are huge. There are some moments where you crush tons of small badguys, and other times when you will have to face up against an insanely hard one. The game has difficulty levels, so you can play based on your own skill level.
It took me 19-20 hours to beat on normal. I didn't get everything in the game, but I would say that I found about 95% of the items.
The game is as epic as the trailer makes it look.
It really is a game that did not receive the amount of attention that it deserved.
For what it is worth, I liked the Keyboard and Mouse just fine for the game, but most say the console controls are better.

I own that game (a friend gave it to me) actually. I haven't played it yet. I'm not a fan of God of War kinda games, there are too many of these kind of games on the PS3 it nearly ruins the whole console for me. Whatever, i will play it still if i can motivate myself to do so.

I've been putting it off, but it's on my list. I remember when it came out, reviewers whined that it copied off of Zelda and God of War, but they never said if it was any good.
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I've played it. Not to completion mind you, but I played about 15 hours in. It is a Zelda mimic, however it's a competent Zelda mimic. It has it's puzzle solving elements and action elements and does them well and, most importantly, is fun.

Did you at least get to the "reveal" portion of the game where they start to answer questions? The first 50% of the game is much more about the quest for the components you need to move along, the second 50% is all about breaking down the lies that started the apocalyptic war.

I don't have a machine that could play it, but the stuff I've been reading up on the sequel where you play as Death sounds awesome.

Sadly, I did not, but I ended up looking up how the game went from that point. I was on the spider dungeon when I had to turn the game back in, I was having quite a bit of fun with the game too until that dungeon. Seriously, that dungeon pissed me off to no end.
Out of curiosity, did you end up making the thread after being reminded about it after hearing about the second game coming out next year?

The spider dungeon was actually one of the easiest ones for me. I found the first boss to be terribly difficult. I just wasn't used to the game mechanics or the boss fight concept yet, it took me a long time to get used to it. Once I did though, the next hardest boss was the Worm because I hadn't upgraded my gun.
As for the reasoning. I bought this game on the Steam Summer Sale. I have been playing it in my free time over the last month and enjoying it tremendously. I didn't realize a second one was being discussed until about half way through the game. The way they end the first game does lend itself to a sequel, yet ties the first game together nicely. I applaud the non-ending without a stupid cliffhanger. It felt like a good end to a TV season, not like one of those ones where they shoot the main character and you wonder for a half year if they are alive or dead... CSI Miami.

The game is awesome. My buddy has it for PS3 and I have enjoyed playing it at his place. I can recommend this game to anyone that is a fan of the God of War games or Bayonetta (which he also has but we have yet to play through yet).

It started to play it and it's fun. It has some kick ass cinematics, GoW like battle mechanics and takes a lot of elements from the 3D Zelda games (you get a hook, you have bottles you can fill, you find maps in the levels, puzzles in every dungeon etc). Not to confuse anyone, it is a linear game, not open world like the 3D Zelda games. Oh, and it's not to easy. There will be parts you will repeat over and over. To sum it up: Sinister themed God of War-esque game with elements from the 3D Zelda games with fine cinematics. It's worth playing if you are into this.

It looks pretty cool indeed. Any game where you can play as one of the four horsemen should be awesome and it's such a cool idea for a series.

What are you talking about?
The story is linear just like any Zelda story, but you can travel anywhere as long as you have the required equipment to get there. Additionally, when you get towards the end of the game they pretty much tell you that you need to search the entire game for a few things. The map has fast travel points because it would be too large to traverse without them.

I was 2hours in the game at Tiamats Tempel. To this point the game is entirely linear. After that you can use the Snake Holes to go to the Map Screen to get from A to B. I just wanted to prevent some confusion that people won't think this game is like a new Zelda game. If you write something like that some people might get too hyped and end up being disappionted when they finally play it.

Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess is linear until you exit wolf form for the first time. That took me like 4-6 hours the first time I played the game. Then the game opened up. It is the same thing with this game. You don't HAVE to use the serpent holes, but it will take you forever if you don't.

I took down that Giant Sandworm Boss (hello, SoTC rip off!) and have to say after you get used to the battle mechanics it's fairly easy to play. I also like the horse riding mechanics, it's fun.

I would pick it up, but I've read it's a pretty bare bones console port. Have you played it on PC GP? Can you play it with a gamepad?

Yes, it works with a gamepad and a keyboard, however you cannot, I repeat, you CANNOT switch control schemes while the game is running. I found that if the gamepad was detected, it took over. This is the only really bad thing about a port. They didn't refine the control detection.
I opted to use the keyboard and mouse because it ended up feeling better to me.
I have never played a console version of this game.
