Yoshi is the most annoying game mechanic of all time and Super Mario World was where he was first seen. As far as I am concerned, the game fails outright for adding a mount to Mario.
How this list considers F-Zero, Starfox, Donkey Kong Country, or Super Mario World 2 top 10 games is just flat out sad. Perhaps to little kids that is true now, but to those who grew up with the system I refuse to believe that any of those titles were a top 10 game.
Considerable omissions:
* Final Fantasy 2 (IV)
* Secret of Mana
* Chrono Trigger
* Street Fighter II Turbo
* Lufia
* Lufia 2
I would have rated the list like this:
1. FF 2 (IV)
2. LoZ LTTP
3. Super Metroid
4. FF 3 (VI)
5. Secret of Mana
6. Lufia 2 (sorry Douche, but at least it made my list)
7. Chrono Trigger
8. Lufia
9. Street Fighter II Turbo
10. Super Mario Kart
Also, Syd, as far as I am aware FF 2/3, Secret of Mana, LTTP, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and several others all used Mode 7. Perhaps not to the same exaggerated end result as F-Zero... but they were all better games. |
I will start with saying that I like all the games in your top 10 except for Super Mario Kart which is just nothing compared to F-Zero or its so-far-superior-sequel-it-aint-funny Mario Kart 64. However, Super Mario World is awesome, as is Yoshi, even though his games are not that great. Yoshi is a very different form of powerup, that gave you lots of new possibilities, and combined with the cape makes you feel almost invincible, which is in my opinion the hole point with power ups.
My list:
15. Super Mario RPG
14. Star Fox
13. Actraiser
12. Final Fantasy IV
11. Super Castlevania 4
10. Contra III
9. Donkey Kong Country
8. F-Zero
7. Mega Man X
6. Super Street Fighter II
5. Chrono Trigger
4. Super Metroid
3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
2. Final Fantasy VI
1. Super Mario World
As for the Lufia-games and Secret of Mana, I like them, and they would be just behind these games, however, I hated the way your party members moved in Secret of Mana if you played that game singleplayer. Much prefer to have a sole hero like in Zelda, or turn-based for my party-based rpgs.
