Final Fantasy VI hit the Virtual Console today under its false number of III. This leaves only one game on the SNES top 10 still to be released on the VC: EarthBound.

Don't see that happening, sadly. Both the fact that nintendo doesn't care about Mother fans and the fact that Earthbound is full of lawsuits waiting to happen make it very difficult for this game to make it to VC.
You can always keep your fingers crossed though, who knows?

If I didn't already have FF6 Advance and I'd get this. Since I do, I don't feel the need to pay for this again.
Also, Sadrack, what sort of lawsuits could Earthbound possibly cause?

According to Nintendo, there is a problem with the Coke, Mr. T, Blues Brothers and numerous other references. It boils down to it just not being worth it to Nintendo to go through the hassle to release a "cult" classic game. NOT gonna happen.

Basically something I read before, but Earthbound is full of direct references to various things, such as The Beatles songs and stuff. Back when it was released it wasn't much of a problem since times were different, but nowadays, lawyers will jump on anything that can be sued, no matter how little the reason.

I keep forgetting these guys switched their online release dates to Thursday.
Well at least it's out.
Only 45 blocks? That's pretty damn small for a 40 hour RPG.

I might agree with this if the music on FF6 Advance wasn't fucking atrocious compared to the original.
Of course the tradeoff is some terrible Wosley translations, some of which even fuck up the story!
Also, why didn't Nintendo just change a bunch of the names and music and release it as a Game Boy Advance game? "Staying true to the original" didn't keep Nintendo from changing a bunch of shit around for the FF advance releases.
