Quote:
20 years ago today, the first Sonic the Hedgehog was released on Sega Genesis in North America. Sega had been looking for a character to counter the increasing popularity of rival Nintendo's Mario. The titular Sonic would go on to become the company's iconic mascot and perhaps the company's most important franchise.

Hopefully now that he's out of his awkward, blemish-covered teens he will start making good games again.

Are there Sonic games where Sonic has nubs, flippers, hooves or paws?

They should make a follow up to Sonic Heroes called Sonic Amputees.

I thought the Sonic Generations demo was alright.

Something didn't feel right about it, it seemed real choppy like it was missing a lot of frames, granted it's an early demo, but as a result I would sometimes have trouble determining what was ahead of me at high speeds.

I saw the latest Sonic game in the bin at Best Buy next to all the other shit they can't sell their over stock of, like Cooking Mama and So You Thin You're Smart Than A Fifth Grader and Guinness Book Of World Records and so on and so forth.

It was 19.95, I thought that was asking too much. Sonic has been dead to me for a long time, and you know what? I didn't like the old school Sonics that much, yeah they were pretty badass at the time but they're not a lot of fun now at least in my opinion.

Sonic 1 is the best Sonic game ever IMO, you don't need spin dash or tails, just excellent level design, nice momentum physics and whimsical music.

I was never a fan of Sonic 1, mainly because the levels were kind of dull (save for Green Hill), and Sonic's character design looked kind of dumb.

My high point in the series would be Sonic and Knuckles, in terms of gameplay, level design, art design, and music. It proved you could also have a story in a Sonic game without long-ass, embarassing cutscenes.

Tried the Sonic Generations demo. It's short, but promising. Only real problem I have with it is that it's hard to see enemies coming, and even when they're there, they're still pretty hard to see.

Sonic one is fast at first, but that underground lava bullshit level really kills the momentum. Sonic 2 is the definitive Sonic Game in my eyes, the rest are varying levels of decent to BLARGH.

All the classic Sonic-games are awesome in my opinion, but Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the highpoint for me.

Agreed! I especially love how you get both the Chaos Emeralds and the Hyper Emeralds.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles all the way. It's a challenge, but not so much that you beat yourself up about it.

Sonic 2 = Sonic CD > Sonic 3 > Sonic & Knuckles (I know that sounds retarded, but the Sonic 3 half of S3&K was better) > Sonic 1

I always kind of liked tails, his dying and shit never hurt the gameplay so he was alright to me. I can't choose between CD and S&K they were both freakin' great but to be honest my favorite ones were the adventure games. Unfortunately they were the beginning of the crap we have today.
