You're definitely gonna want a strategy guide. I mean hell, didn't the original cartridge come with a map and dungeon guides for the first few levels?

I definitely always fought Tiamat last. Kraken's not that bad.

Kraken's not bad, but the trip there is awful.

And I do tend to do Kraken before Tiamat, I just look the Sky Castle entirely first.

Note that the revisited Kraken fight in the Temple of Fiends is probably the hardest of the four. I had SO many Two Mage runs end on that dick.

I think the Nintendo Power walkthrough said to fight Kraken first, but I could be wrong. Either way, I ground my way through. I think my basic strategy was that if the first enemy I encountered in an area wasn't unnecessarily difficult, that I must be in the right place. Then I'd fight my way through the area until it was completed or my guys needed to be replenished, in which case I'd retreat, heal, and fight my way through again. Probably because that was how you won in Dragon Warrior I, and to a lesser extent, the sequels.

Ugh, don't get me started on the Temple of Fiends. I still remember the first time I accidentally fought the same Fiend twice in a row. That sucked.

Yeah, the "right" way to do it is Lich, Kary, Kraken, Tiamat. That doesn't mean you have to do it that way. I had a buddy who did Tiamat second and Kary last.

You have to beat Lich first though, right? Otherwise the Sages won't give you the spoiler, right?

Yep. You're on rails up until you beat Lich. After that, you can go get the Airship and pretty much do whatever you want.

Well someone else said they had just started, so I didn't want to ruin things for them.

Aside from the last boss, there aren't spoilers in the first Final Fantasy. Spoilers are named as such because whatever the detail may be will cause you to shit your pants with stupefication out of something revolutionary.

In Metal Gear Solid, finding out that

[SPOILER:95f95892e6]Master Miller is actually Liquid Snake[/SPOILER:95f95892e6]

is a spoiler.

In Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

[SPOILER:95f95892e6]finding out that Sweet and Big Smoke were working with the cops all along[/SPOILER:95f95892e6]

 is a spoiler

In FF4, finding out that

[SPOILER:95f95892e6] Golbez is Cecil's brother[/SPOILER:95f95892e6]

is a spoiler.

Finding out that you have to save Melmond from a Vampire and Elfland from a douchebag is not. I suppose you could argue that said douchebags identity is a spoiler but whatever.

The last boss barely qualifies as a spoiler, but that's because his scheme is so ridiculously idiotic you're shocked more at the fact that the writers thought that was a good plot twist rather than the plot twist itself. It's not like FF4 where certain party members run off at any given time. The shit with the mages is just fleshed out exposition that is honestly probably in the instruction booklet.

Spoilers are when you SPOIL the enjoyment of an experience for someone else. They don't have to make you shit your pants.
