Oh I'm not saying Square is 90% RPG, just like Capcom isn't 90% Fighting games, but they are predominantly what these companies excel at or are perceived to excel at. I'm interested to see what this Mario Sports Mix game will be like.

@sideway I hope you're right.

Square Enix does more non-RPG stuff than you might think. They own the Taito name and IPs, and they produced this month's Mario Sports Mix game.

So where's Einhander 2?

Why the EA hate. I personally like a lot of there franchises.
Dante's Inferno
Mass Effect
BurnOut
Left 4 Dead
Need For Speed
Madden
Tiger Woods
Medal of Honor
Command & Conquer
Shank
Dragon Age
DeathSpank
some people like the Sims obviously.

I'm not a fan of having half finished games released, constantly patched, and all those other annoyin things that they do. I'm also not a fan of being drowned in dlc that should have been a part of the sixty dollar game I just purchased. I'm not a fan of not being able to play a game online because I bought it used, and then having the online be shitty and glitchy. I also don't think that just footing the bill to release games that Westwood, bioware, valve, and small independent developers made entitles you to be put in the se category as konami, nintendo, or capcom. I could care less about the fact that they've used their vast wealth to buy up every license related to a major sport, so that you could release a game every year that's nearly identical to the last.

Look at the games that electronic arts used to release on their own. Good luck finding a good one. And nostalgia factor and the juvenile fun we've had with road rash doesn't count. Before you say it, desert strike and it's sequels weren't really that good.

Not sure if it was developed in-house, but the last NBA Jam was pretty fun. I suppose the fact that it started off as DLC and ended up a full retail release is kind of bullshit.

I don't know if it makes a lot of sense to separate between in-house development and not, as EA probably financed it either way. Also, I agree that EA is not the devil, they have a few franchises that they milk to death, but they also make or finance quite a few decent titles. The same applies to Ubisoft and most publishers actually. Still, I am sure Nintendo would be the company who would be able to handle Konami's franchises best, as they generally held their own franchises in a very good level of quality, and also have a long history of doing so. Of course, it would be sad for the owners of other consoles, but at least we would be semi-sure that the games themselves would be good from now on. I am also sure Nintendo would resurrect a lot of the old franchises, as they are desperately in need of more content for their plattforms (thanks to the shitty third party support they usually get).

I vote for Take Two to buy Konami, and rename it "Rockstar Far East".

Okay, so that's about 1/2 a joke.

Take Two thrives mostly on 2K Sports and Rockstar titles, neither of which make games that are very popular with the asian markets. But, if they were to purchase Konami, it would greatly strengthen the one market they don't do well in, and make them a far better worldwide publishing company.

So I was doing some research for my Management class on SAP and Oracle Software companies and found something interesting. Konami is actually the 20th largest software company in the world behind Nintendo, Activision/Blizzard, EA, and Sony. They dipped 24% but every other company on the list dipped as well except Capcom, Square Enix and Namco Bandai.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Konami is not going to be bought out, and if they are by some incredible twist of events it's not going to be by Capcom, Ubisoft, Take-two or Square-Enix...yet.

I'd be interested in seeing in what Nintendo does with the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG, but I'd hate to see any other company take it over.

Konami lost 24% of their software sales, more than any other video game company on the list except Sony and Take Two. Video game sales account for 55% of Konami's income (I guess Yu-Gi-Oh is the rest?), so that's bad. Take Two is apparently in worse shape. Losing 37% of your game sales when 100% of your revenue is from game sales is probably not good.

Also, keep in mind these are gross revenues, not net. WCW, at its peak, was making more money than WWE. Unfortunately, it was also SPENDING way more than WWE.

Komani makes a lot of slot machines too, I've seen them around Vegas and Washington.

So does Sega Sammy, but I think theirs are mostly relegated to the Asian markets.

Personally, I think Sega needs their own resort in Vegas called Casino Zone.

Sega has two machines that I've seen in the North-East, House of the Dead, which is based of off the third game and Shinobi, which is just Shinobi. I've done good on both machines but only at separate casinos.

Hell yes! I think Sega owning a casino would be an awesome idea. It would have a lot of Sega slot machines, have some Sega arcade machines and even have rings in place of casino tokens.

OK, the rings bit was a joke, but I would still love to see that happen.

Just one last thing: it should be called "Casino Night."

I'm still vying for capcom to buy konami. then just take their properties and use them to make XBLA games. with capcom's tenacity with releasing tons of games under the same license, coupled with the fact that XBLA games are cheap, they would make a killing.

Games like Contra and Castlevania would thrive in this kind of market. It's a much more fitting fate than making them into 3d story based epics that don't capture what makes them great, just to justify selling them for retail price, and you can only survive on repackaged compilations for so long.

Konami in total made about 100 Million in Net Profits up til 12-31-10. So I'd say they got a ways to go before being bought out.

Over this past year. Total revenue was about 3 Billion. But like Syd said that is over both sides of the business. Their software division is 55% of their revenue.
