I am know I am a noob here even though I have lurked for a while, yet it seems that the posting frequency is down significantly than what it was say a year ago.

It just seems like the articles aren't churned out that much anymore and there are fewer replies each day. I really like the concept of this site and Syd and his real life friends are cool yet I notice there are some people here who have an elitist attitude on everything and seem like very unhappy people IRL. Maybe they are to blame for running some of the people off? Its like a type of negative energy that radiates from certain posts. I won't name names but I think we know who these people are.

Sydlexia Forums can never die! Not as long as social awkwardness and video games still exist!

The winter months tend to be very bleak and blah for people....might explain why.

GenesisDoes,

Concerns like yours pop up every once in a while and in general threads like this never end well. Complaining about the quality or quantity of submissions doesn't resolve anything and only promotes other members realizing your own dissatisfaction.

So, I suggest you post a thread that you feel others will be interested in. Be creative and inventive. Engage the community and get things going.

Couldn't have said it better, GP. As Deadmau_5pra put it, a lot of forums slow down to the winter doldrums; I run several forum-based rpg games, and all of them have slackened a bit with winter. With spring, much like out there in the non-digital world, there'll be new life, although here in the form of posts and the like.

And really, I don't ever remember when articles were "churned out". Syd is a loving craftsman of language with a slight procrastination problem Razz

I've noticed it was slow, but I wouldn't say dying.

I'd chalk it up to the winter myself.

The regulars are still around holding the fort down.

The forum is quite alive, but I don't think I know who you are. Just post more, make a new interesting thread and have fun. No reason to call attention to this annual winter slump.

GenesisDoes, correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the sense that your issue isn't really with the activity of the forum, but rather some of the "negative" stuff you don't like to see. Your argument is that posting has slowed down and you believe it's because of posters you don't like. Right?

I wonder if forum activity even has slowed down. I haven't noticed anything. Any way to check this?

How many good new posts are there a day? About 50? That's not dying. That's pretty healthy.

Also, not sure if it comes into play for anyone else, but this is generally the time of year school starts ramping up for people. I'm in my last semester before graduation and between student teaching, classes, and the thesis I have due in April to graduate (in addition to little things like, y'know, the Army, and my other job) time on the forum and in IRC has been severely minimized.

Things will pick up again--for me and others I suspect--as the summer gets closer.

I haven't noticed anything out of the norm. So there's negative energy sometimes. It's the internet and people argue.

You must now be ostracized.

This lull is nothing. I think we went through a legit one a year or two back. It got really quiet and then we got a bunch of new members.

I could be wrong though. Maybe I was just inactive Razz

Yea, pretty much this.

In fact, I brought this up last night, this forum has a surprisingly small amount of "junk" posts. I know someone is gonna go out of their way to prove me wrong, but there's really not a lot of crap on this forum.

Most of us have a lot more obligations during the winter. I personally have five clubs along with school, so my time is being sucked up.

Sooner than later this site will die. Most of us that are truly nostalgic about the 80's and 90's are growing older. It's called Peak Nostalgia, and it is very real my friend. The truth is there are not enough 18--23 year old males right now to replace the 24-35 males that enjoy Comics, Transformers and McDonalds Happy Meal toys. I give myself till 35 to not be playing video games, watching cartoons or engaging in internet feuds. Pretty soon, everything ends, just ask Michael Ruppert.

Why would you stop at 35? Does something magical happen at that age? Your hobbies will suddenly change? Sure, you may not be able to play as often, but your interest for them won't die simply because of your age. Your personal taste might, but again, that's not attached to some random number.

Video games are losing the stigma that they are only for kids and young adults. People of all ages play video games. I have several 50 and 60 year old clients who play video games, particularly WoW. Even more from this generation will do the same as we get older.

This site won't die unless Syd fails to post a new article for, I don't know, four months or so.

Nah this forum ain't dead until either we all start flaming the shit out of any new members and become isolationist/forumxenophobic, or Syd stops paying the bills.

Wasn't he gonna do ads? What happened to that? Confused
