I'm a PC guy myself, but I know well enough that the only good thing that comes standard on windows XP is Pinball.

What, you fix Macs now too? |
I fix software issues on Macs... and now I have an iMac so I've been messing with it a lot too... setup a home network last night, and I was damn proud.
EDIT: The only "good" thing that comes pre-installed on a PC is MS Paint... that's all I miss from PC.

Personally, I think they completely mess up the commercials.
Think about it.
They should show the truth. For Macs, they should have some trendy hipster come out. Then have all his friends come out, except they all look exactly like him.
Then introduce to PC, and use anybody you want for the PC. Then have the other PC come out, and have complete and total variety of ages, sexes, races, social types, etc.
That's the truth.
Your Mac, looks and runs exactly like every other mac of the same model.
PC's are as infinate and different as snowflakes. And, even if both are say Dell, they make look identical on the outside, but odds are, they have completely different parts inside.
Also. For the posters above me, who keep making references about PC and Windows. Microsoft is only one of hundreds of OS makers for PCs. PC users have a choice. Mac users don't. You don't like Mac OSX, well tough shit, cause your stuck with it.
Windows not doing it for you, PC users? Then try Unix, BeOS, Linix, HPuX, Solaris, etc, etc, etc.....
And, also, here's some food for thought for you "Mac Lovers/Microsoft Haters." Microsoft bailed Apple out of bankrupcy back in 1997 by giving Apple $100 million dollars.

I'm not smart enough to use Unix or Linux.

You do realize that Mac OS is a derivative of UNIX? Right? And for the record, you can run any of those systems on Mac...

personally I don't like linux. I'm happy with windows.
that whole deal about mac programs being compatable wit PC but not the other way around only strengthens my point that PC is better than mac, as it's compatable.
In two of my three jobs, one of the most common questions I have to answer is "will this work on my mac?" which is just fucked up. I've never had someone walk up to me with a device or program and have to ask if it works on PC.
any decent windows mouse has five buttons anyways. mac is obviously behind the times if they're just comign out with this now.
it's really not hard to find programs that do the same shit as imovie and all teh rest of that junk, and having it ship with the PC isn't a factor, since mose people pirate their software anyways. I do raise the question now though, what if you didn't want all that imovie crap on your computer to begin with?

And, just for the record I am not anti-mac. I used them in my college music recording classes, and they are great for Audio and Video work. It was alot easier recording on the Macs, then then three weeks it took me to get my home studio set up on my PC. (It took forever to figure out why Cakewalk Sonar was having latency issues with my sound card and mixer.)
But being that I am a hardcore gamer, it goes without saying that I prefer PCs.
Also, I build my own systems (usually a couple pieces at a time). I am suppose to upgrade a computer that is built into it's own monitor, how?

One Thing PC Users Can Do That Mac Users Can't
The best PC mouse I've ever used had the Two buttons with the scroll thingie in between them, and two buttons near your thumb to go back and forward in your browser. That's 5 buttons right there and it came out years ago.

Selective installation... you can do that you know.... unlike a whole lot of PCs that just come with Recovery Discs, Mac actually gives you the FULL Mac OS X installation DVDs... both of them.

So basically what you're saying, Tish, is that:
IF you want to spend time picking and choosing which useless video programs (that you don't want in the first place) should come with your computer, a.k.a. "selective installation",
IF you want a computer whose OS is a derivative of an OS you can already get somewhere else,
IF you want a 5-button mouse that came out for the PC about 5 years ago, and
IF you want a system that is starting to pride itself on being able to run programs that PCs have been running for years,
...then you should buy a Mac.
Yeah, thanks but no thanks.

Hey Spanky, for someone who wants to rid the forums of petty bickering, you might want to work on yourself first... just a thought.
That aside, I was answering a question as to what one does when they don't want to install iLife... custom installation. As for 5 button mouse, also answering the question as to why you'd want a 1 button Mac mouse. They don't even sell them anymore. Why would you want a Mac if its new campaign is to run Windows? Because it's showing it's diversity... you show me what PC runs Mac OS... the full Mac OS...

Watch Hak.5. They did a feature on running OS X on a gateway laptop. Any machine that can run the SSE2 instruction set can run it. SSE3 is better for more complex apps.

Well, I didn't see disagreeing with your observations as petty bickering. There's a difference between not agreeing with points you've brought forward, which is what I'm doing, and calling each other fat, the lowest common denominator, fucktard, et al, which is what you seem to do with several people. Discussing and disagreeing about points relevant to the topic isn't petty; it's what the ENTIRE POINT OF THE FUCKING FORUM IS.
Why would you want to run the full Mac OS when even Mac seems to be shying away from the fact that it's incompatible with Windows, Unix, etc?
If I had a product I was selling who's biggest selling point CURRENTLY is that it has switched to a new processor (Intel) in order to run more of the same programs that PCs have been able to run for years, my guess is that my product isn't a very good one.

I've seriously considered getting a Mac as my next computer for a while, what with the groovy multimedia programs that exist solely for it, like Final Cut Pro. However, the cost was always too much for me to justify. Plus, I had programs that weren't Mac-compatible that I didn't want to lose.
And now with Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Audition, I'm pretty much all set on my PC.

Hehe. I actually haven't seen it. I've seen Visitor Q, though, and vowed to never watch another one of his movies.
Nevertheless, I respect the guy. He's prolific, and you can't easily dismiss his stuff.

How about the fact that Mac is touting everything that it is doing to be more like a PC? I don't know why a PC company like Dell or Gateway doesn't just put up a commercial that says:
"Do you like playing games on your PC? How about multitasking that isn't a pain in the ass to do? How about getting USEFUL software that comes with the machine? Then don't get a Mac!"
I am, in fact, on a Mac right this minute, and it's not impressive.

I remember in elementary school, I was playing SimCity 2000 and You Don't Know Jack instead of work. Sometimes, the teacher just let us free time to do it. I heart Mac System 7.5.1...
ah... the days before I was hooked on Japanese games..
