http://cgi.ebay.com/FAMICOM-NES-FC-GUN-CONTROLLER-ZAPPER-NINTENDO-JAPAN-/140460114666?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item20b41342ea

This is a Japan-exclusive Zapper that came packaged with an cowboy game. The listing says that the gun only works with Japanese consoles, but I don't think the seller really knows if that's true or not. The seller also has up a complete boxed set of the game and gun and that listing says that the gun will only work work with that one game, which is completely not true, it will work with any Zapper games.

The adapter to plug it in looks wrong, so I'll say it wont work with an American NES. Though, it is pretty badass.

It would work on an American NES with a slight modification to the connector. My friend has one, and it is quite awesome.

What kind of modification needs to be made? After Rydog's comment, I checked and noticed the Colt connect has 15 holes whereas a Zapper has 7 holes.

It looks like it won't.
Also, I had a SNES Superscope peripheral that looked like that but it came with the SNES adapter to plug into the controller port. The part that would plug into the adapter looked sort of like the plug on this controller...

I think the mod would be cutting off the adapter on the colt, and also on a USA controller/zapper, then splicing the wires to get the USA adapter onto the colt. I'd be certain though before purchase, bad enough your pondering spending $85 to play duck hunt with a revolver, imagine if you did and couldn't make it work...

VGM to the rescue!

The reason why after market Famicom controllers have 15 pins are because the base Famicom control pads are hardwired to the Famicom console. There is a single 15 pin plug on the front of the Famicom that allows extra control devices to be plugged in, such as light guns, or even a replacement pair of control pads.

You could make it work by making an adapter, using the plug of another controller, some wire and some electrical tapes. The pin out is like this:

Grrr...

I hate how there's all this DIY stuff on the internet and not people you can pay to do it for you. I don't want to know how to build a custom MAME cabinet, I want SOMEONE ELSE to build it for me!

I would love to get that gun. Very Happy

Well, personally, I might try to save up and get an actual Famicom, anyway, partially of the Famicom Disk System. I might try to go for the Famicom Twin, though. If that ever happens, I might buy that gun, then.

Now you just need to mod your LCD TV to work with it.

I'll mod the gun for free if I can get the ports needed. Also a system to test it on.
