Really?? I don't recall such an option. |
There was some fighting game that gave the option between "original" and "arrange" mechanics. I thought it was 3rd Strike, but it may have been just between that and 2nd Impact. I'll have to check.
ALSO:
 |
IIRC, the version of third strike that came with the street fighter anniversary collection had this option.

I'd buy a third version of SF4. We all had 3 versions of SF2 back in the day.
Aside from map packs, DLC is, at best, lazy and at worst, evil and greedy.
Lazy: For 1/1000 of the effort it takes to make a new game they can get 1/10 of the money they'd get for a new game.
Greedy and evil: The DLC is planned out in advance, meaning that the company is releasing an intentionally incomplete game and then charging you more money to complete the game. Soul Calibur IV is a great example of this. Vader and Yoda are both ALREADY ON THE FUCKING DISC no matter which version you buy. |
Meh. I'd rather one game keep a faithful community through additional content, even if it's just small additional quests and extra characters here and there, than have to buy a new game every year. I can't even tell you how many friends I have that I now cannot play street fighter with online because they kept vanilla when I upgraded to super.
I'm also not too fond of having to buy a new sports game or call of duty game every year for minor upgrades to the same formula. I'd rather just have one copy of modern warfare and buy new downloadable campaigns for it or something.
I don't mind shit like paying to unlock vader, because he's just bonus content. not being able to play as vader or yoda would not take away from my soul calibur experience in any way, shape, or form. if they had sold me half of a game and then made me pay to unlock the rest of it, I would be more pissed.
Kinda like the RE5 DLC. I didn't mind paying to unlock versus mode, because I still had the full campaign and full mercenaries mode (at the time). Versus mode was just a neat little addition. If it wasn't included at all I wouldn't even notice it missing. I was more pissed about how the mercenaries reunion mode was handled. The Two extra chapters were well worth my money, however. Great example of what proper DLC should be.

Lawlz. Nobody should ever support continued play of their games by thinking up new content later. Fuck map packs, fuck additional quests, and fuck new characters.
|
Note I did not mention map packs or additional quests, so don't put words in my mouth. I was specifically talking about characters who are already made and done, who are then withheld for the express purpose of DLC. Characters and game settings should be a given or included in a new disc. Its my opinion, and I'm well within my right to withhold all purchases until they put it together onto an All-Stars disc if I have to. |
cool story bro, but I don't see any mention of Map packs or additional quests in the post that I quoted. I see you bitching about how you shouldn't have to pay for DLC because it should have been in the game originally. Also, the street fighter DLC is handled nothing like the blazblue DLC, so I don't even see where you're going there. These are characters taht were thought up after the game launched, and will be offered as additional downloads. The Blazblue characters, while already on the disc, weren't even complete files. most of the stuff was placeholder crap because teh game was rushed.
If I misread your post or something, then I apologize for offending you for no reason, however.
Also, those hakan and balrog costumes are pretty fucking sweet.

Yeah, I'll admit that DLC is a better alternative to Activision and EA cranking out "new" versions of the same old games every year.
What's really funny is that even though Guitar Hero and Rock Band have become very DLC-driven, the companies STILL release new versions at least once a year and usually twice a year now.

I've been waiting for Rock Band 3 for a couple of years now. GH might continuously pump out sequels and DLC, but RB pumps out DLC and shitty band exclusive versions. I don't like playing the same band over and over again unless it's Iron Maiden...and possibly Queen. It gets old really quickly.

In lieu of RB3, we got Lego Rock Band last year. And RB was 2008.
So the system still works.

Nothing really. They've added the key-tar as an instrument, but the main reason I want it is for all the new songs. You pay $60 for about 100songs. that's roughly 1/4 the cost.

Not to derail from the topic at hand any further, but it introduces a "Pro Mode" which has you playing the actual chords/notes in songs (coming with new instruments to compliment that) and such. It's to transition people into playing the actual instruments, which I can get behind-- it'd help my sucky ass.
It's a bit complicated to explain so just read about it on wiki.
Back to the topic, I'm pretty hyped at Yun being in now, he was one of the few characters from SF3 I was familiar with. And I'd rather have him, Yang and whoever else in as DLC rather than buy a new game.. we're not in the SNES era anymore, that kind of cost for a few more guys can't be justified in this day and age.

I don't think there is one yet. A friend from work was showing me a magazine and they showed some new instrument stuff, like the key-tar and the fact that they made the guitar lifelike by using strings and proper finger placement to play it. In other words its practically an actual guitar and is used as such. It looks really complicated.

Yeah. He's not as good on a professional level, but he's more fun to play as IMO.

Yang's 2nd Ultra looks the least impressive to me. That said, they all look great.

Oh c'mon! Using the guy as a skateboard in midair is awesome.
And yeah, Yang's second looks kinda toned down compared to his first.

I just feel that a lot of the ultras in general are kinda silly looking. I wish they would have gone more in the direction of "beat the crap out of the guy in an awesome way" like Ken's first ultra, and less in the direction of " let's see how craaaazy we can be with the physics!" like C.Viper's second.

Some of the Ultras are a little too DBZ for my tastes but it's a minor complaint.

Man, what a waste of fucking time and roster space. Might as well throw Charlie in as well since people clamour for him even though he's the same damn thing as Guile.
