When I was little a very vaguely remember watching a cartoon which I'm hoping someone can help me identify. The problem with this is that I've been trying to find info on this thing for years and I'm beginning to think it was a dream or something because everyone just looks at me like I have a 3 headed monkey standing behind me or something.
It was essentially about a buch of people playing a board game that involved dragons... a bunch of friends either went to a shop or to somebody hosue and they were shown the game. Somehow they enter into the boardgame and then boom they are flying around on dragons. I seem to vaguely remember the main bad guy being or riding a black dragon, one of the kids had a red one... I sure hope this sounds vaguely familiar to someone... its been driving me crazy for years.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!

It sounds vaguely like the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon which aired from 1983-1985 and then for many years after in syndication, but not quite close enough that I think I'm right.
Like Syd said, it sounds like the D&D cartoon but it can't be right, primarily because I don't recall the protagonists in that having dragons. I almost thought Dragon Flyz from Canada, but I wiki'ed it and that's not it. I seem to remember a show similar to the one you're talking about, but if so, I can't remember the name. Sorry dude.
Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much.

Doesn't sound right: the D&D cartoon has the characters going to the D&D world through a roller coaster ride and other different details.
At first I thought you were talking about an animated series, but now that I think of it, I think I have an idea.
Well, one possibility is that you're talking about the animated movie The Flight of Dragons that came out in 1982.
I'd also think you might refer to Flight of Dragons. There was a scene where the main character is at a shop and there is a board game that I think resembled a chess set. The pieces represented the dragons and the wizards.
