One man drove 12,238 miles across 30 states to scrawl a message that can only be viewed using Google Earth. His big shoutout: “Read Ayn Rand.”
Nick Newcomen did a road trip over 30 days that covered stretches from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. First, he identified on a map the route he would need to drive to spell out the message. He put a GPS device in his car to trace the route he would follow. Then, he hit the road.
“The main reason I did it is because I am an Ayn Rand fan,” he says. “In my opinion if more people would read her books and take her ideas seriously, the country and world would be a better place — freer, more prosperous and we would have a more optimistic view of the future.” |

I would've respected him more if he'd written, "Ayn Rand is an enormous hypocrite" but maybe he didn't have the space?

Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much. |

I hope he was driving an electric car, otherwise he is a fucking jerk for wasting all that gas and polluting the country to do something he could have done in Photoshop in 10 seconds.

Ayn Rand? Really? Of all the people in the world he had to choose Ayn Rand?
You know who else read Ayn Rand novels? M. Night Shyamalan. (No kidding.) Think about that for a moment.
Ah well, I suppose it could had been worse: He could had written "Read Stephenie Meyer".

My thoughts precisely. It wouldn't have been as newsworthy, but I believe this guy is a thoughtless, opportunist waste of space. He could have at least done something while driving around... like buying some books for underprivileged people if he wants them to read Rand so badly. I wish Atlas would drop the heavens right on his face.

This is like anne coulture like reasoning... it's funny, but isn't a good reason to dislike a book. That said, I do agree with you that i dislike Ayn Rand's philosophy.

I would have plugged my website and waited for the rage-filled comments on how there's nothing in it.

If I were Ayn Rand, I would track him down, drive to his house and slap him for making the real Ayn Rand fans look bad.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can. |
