I'm surprised this hasn't been started by anyone.

My PC is broken so I can't even think of buying his game yet, but has anyone played it?

My buddy bought it amd played 21 hours straight. He took time off work for this and it has consumed him this whole week. He finally went back to work today.

I don't hvae the scratch to get this game right now, and even if I did, I don't really hve the time to play it right now, because I'm sure this would eat up a good chunk of my life right here.

I'm still waiting for my collector's edition to arrive from Amazon.

I have it. I was gonna start a thread but i couldn't be assed creating a new thread.

@Icewarm - i have collectors edition, it is really worth the money.

You may have heard bad things before the release of the game about the campaign being shit, multiplayer shit etc.

I will clear this up now.

I completed the campaign in three days from release day. I must have played for about 15-20 hours of campaign in total. No doubt you are going to play it but when choosing the difficulty to play on Normal is still quite easy - if you have played SC1 it definitely is.

I won't spoil the story but it's well written and quite enjoyable, so much so that you want to continue playing. The fact that you can choose the order of the missions you play and what missions you want to play (when given a choice of two and can only pick one) is a great addition. Also the interactions with people on the ship outside the missions is great too.

There is also a challenge mode to help you learn different tactics.

Then onto multiplayer - before you get stuck into the game there is a practice mode which are unranked matches which allow you to well.. practice! (50 matches). You can skip it or use all the matches up and then you have to do 5 qualifying matches and based on your performance you are sorted into leagues based on ability (Bronze, silver, gold, platinum?, diamond - i think). I haven't been sorted yet i have only done one of the qualifying matches.

As well as that you can play against the AI online with someone else (random or friend etc.). Then there are custom games - just like the ones in Warcraft 3 if you have played it.

There is loads to do... oh yes there are achievements for single player and multiplayer - unlockable portraits, "sprays" for your units - like clan colors or something.

The list goes on and i still haven't even got to use half the stuff in my collectors edition yet...

It's well worth the money, i do have some beef with the game though. The way multiplayer is within regions so i can't play with some people on my steam list.

The game is pretty sweet. Been enjoying it greatly since day one. My only disappointment is that it is a game that you cannot actually craft stars in.

I just don't care about Starcraft anymore. I had enough RTS like over a decade ago with Warcraft II, now I'm over it. Age of Empires 1 was pretty righteous though.

Yeah, I'm with Josh. It's a very tired genre and I didn't find Starcraft as epic and revolutionary as everyone else.

Plus, I guess games like these don't really appeal to people who don't enjoy multiplayer.

I personally find strategy games like Star Craft and Red Alert to be interesting. Although that is just an opinion, it happens to be my opinion.

I bought Starcraft II, and so far I'm neutral on it. The campaign seems pretty decent, although I'm not too far into it. As for the multiplayer, well, so far, it's disappointing. I'm sure the matchmaking systems and the regular melee games are well done, but that's not an aspect of the game I'm going to do much with. However, the custom games system right now is pure crap, and if it doesn't get a serious overhaul soon, Starcraft II will turn into a disappointing purchase.

Oh, I think they are plenty interesting. I'm just saying that the genre really hasn't evolved since like, Dune II. I had my fill of RTS pretty early on, and after having played Command and Conquer (the first one, not Red Alert) I never really felt the need to get sucked into them anymore. It's all been done before, but this time it's with better lighting.

Hey, the whole second episode of Duke Nukem 3D was in outer space! And no love for Commander Keen? You are clearly a terrorist.

But seriously, Starcraft is lame.

I agree with saying the RTS genre has not evolved much, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Look at the new command & conquer, that game was complete shit.

Starcraft and Warcraft both are great games IMO. They are simple to learn and take ages to master. The very simple rock/paper/scissors mechanic makes it easy to understand and play.

If u don't like em, then u don't like em, but I wouldn't go as far to say they are lame.

Starcraft is one of the best games ever. If it's not your cup of tea, I understand that. RTS games can get boring for some people very quickly. Starcraft never did for me though because there were thousands of maps to play (when you include the quality fan-made ones) and the 'Use Map Settings' maps made by players gave you tons of more quality gameplay. It's about as perfect a RTS game that you're going to find.

Like some of the guys on here, I haven't bought Starcraft II yet because I know I don't have the time to play it right now. I know I'll want to spend hours and hours playing it. I need to wait until all my classes are over. But I will get it eventually.

I will have to agree, AOE 1 was without a doubt my best RTS experience ever. It was way ahead of its time and I was deperately waiting for them to remake it. Too bad ensemble studios went under Crying

Warcraft III was pretty amazing, and no one seemed to care when it came out.

Commander Keen's pretty good. I only remember Duke Nukem fighting on Earth and in Washington DC.

I liked star craft, and Warcraft III, I probably even liked warcraft III more.

I've played with good players in both those games.

I had a lot of fun watching Moon in Star Craft... and Grubby from Warcraft III.

I still remember when Grubby won WCG, orc was my favorite race.

As for Starcraft II, I had it since beta, but I just didnt' get around to playing it much really. Maybe i'll but it sometime, but no real desire to be honest. I have so many other games and things to do.. I don't think i'd have the time to devote to it.

I'm about a quarter of the way through the campaign. Its pretty awesome, I've always been a big fan of RTS games though so I can udnerstand if its not your thing. I havent played multiplayer yet, but I played the beta quite a bit and it feels a lot better balanced than the original game. Protoss and humans have a decent defense against a zerg rush now, there are many ways to win for each race. Its a good time.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!

This was pretty much my thought. I was bored with the genre after Warcraft II as well. That being said, the game is really fun so far. The mining/gathering was done very well. It's been concentrated to one specific area and I haven't ran into a problem of running out of resources. F the days of chopping down entire forests with an army of peons.

I never played the first one since I was always a Diablo fan. Diablo and SC always seemed to compete with eachother for your money and time. This is the first game since Civ 4 that clearly will cause problems getting things done in my personal life.

Still....I'd rather be playing Diablo 3.

No, I don't think I will fuck Stummies.

I will admit that I have never played the original Starcraft. The issue was that when the RTS genre was young, I loved Dune 2 and the Command & Conquer series. (Any Westwood Studios RTS). Then all my friends starting raving about Warcraft, I tried it and couldn't play it. It was because the controls for Warcraft were the EXACT opposite of the C&C games. (Right click to move units vs Left Click to move units) And, in the early days, there weren't options to change the settings.

So, I never got into Warcraft, nor Warcraft II. And, when Starcraft come out, my opinion was pretty much: "Wow...Warcraft in space, whoop-di-do."

I have played Starcraft II, and so far I enjoy it for being true to RTS roots, and nothing like the pile of steaming shit that C&C 4 was.
