I have had no interest whatsoever in 3D TV, but I enjoyed this commercial for it.

Huh, that ad is actually pretty funny :p

If their TV's are up to that quality then lets bring on some 3-D shows

The bad part is, if/when they start becoming commonplace, there's going to be a lot of shows that don't need to be in 3-D that will be. Imagine, the "I want to be a human taco with you 2" episode of Maury in lurid 3-D, just pulling you into the gigantic flour tortilla with the disgusting fat chick. Kill the future.

At the electronics expo in Vegas in January, I was able to check out sports in 3-D. It was amazing. When things are shot with the new 3-D cameras, it looks so much better than 3-D that I even saw last year. The glasses are also way better. Of course, they're like over $100 a piece right now.

Yeah, we don't need talk shows and crap like that in 3-D, but sports and some movies will be greatly enhanced. I'm looking forward to 3-D becoming more practical and affordable. Don't get so stuck in the past.

3-D invariably makes me nauseous, no matter how kindly rendered. I don't watch a lot of television, but it's on enough to warrant me taking a gander now and then, and puking my guts up isn't exactly something I look forward to doing. You know that video games are going to take the next step too, and the idea of them being rendered the same just kills me. The only things I can really handle are the VR helmet units, so until we get there (which is actually something I'm looking forward to) I'm pensive, at best, about the situation. I really hate throwing up, and Avatar made me so sick I only made it a quarter of the way through.

First of all, that commercial was hilarious.

Second, I'm really not holding my breath for 3D TV to be the next best thing.

Maybe a step towards much better technology, but not the thing that will replace TV as we know it.

I just don't see 3D catching on until they can make it work without the glasses. Going to a 2-hour movie is one thing, but I'm not gonna wear them while laying on the couch at home.

Eh, I'm sure 3D's just a passing fad. Y'know, like it was the last couple times.

Also, fuck 3D! It's not albino-compatible.

See, I'm not convinced of the veracity of the first part of that statement. True, it's enjoyed a resurgence and then downfall two or three times in the last fourty-fifty years, but it's getting to the point where it's getting ubiquitous. If anything else, it's going to be a much more long-lasting fad this time than it had been. It's not like James Cameron is going to shoot Avatar 2 or 3 in regular 2-D effects after the insane amount of money it made. There might be an accumulation of 3-D movies so large that it creates a backlash, but I think that's going to end up being years in the future, if at all.

I'm excited to try 3D! It is better than it has ever been. Unfortunately, it will be a very long time until I can afford anything like that.
