eatpork, outside of this thread and the favorite genre thread, I don't really have a problem with ya. In fact, you seem like an okay guy beyond what was shown in the two threads. Seriously, you aren't a bad guy, but your attitude towards others does seem to need some work.

I have no problem with you personally or your taste in music.
...unless you write for Pitchfork.

Kid, we've all heard and seen at least a few odd bands. Sometimes we like them, sometimes we don't. That's it. Just because I don't like My Bloody Valentine, and you don't like Andrew Jackson Jihad or something, doesn't mean one of us has a bad taste, or one of those bands is bad. It's all subjective. You're not elitist, almost nobody in this world is. We all just like our own stuff, and when you insult someone for genuinely liking something after god knows how many years on this planet, you're just being insulting. I don't like Aerosmith. I hate Aerosmith, but if I said everybody who liked Aerosmith is a blind little puppet, and if they think Husker Du sucks, I'm not elitist because it's not like it's knowledge you have to be a good person in order to have.
I try to experience new music. I'll walk away with likes and dislikes, and all I can do is praise anyone at least open to new ideas, whatever their walking-away opinion is. I reckon you're probably younger than me, and if so I know where you're coming from. You'll get over it in a few years, and if you're at least somewhat introspective, you'll realize the problems of your thinking and expression in at least a few years. I'm not going to insult you, all I'm going to ask you to do (granted a few other people need to do it), is just to realize what you're saying, and not to insult just because people have had different experiences.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

Greg is right. There was in a time in my life, when I was probably about 18-20, when I was very singleminded about what type of music was good and I was very derisive of people with conflicting tastes. I thought I was being true to myself and uncomprising in beliefs or something like that. It turns out I wasn't; I was being an asshole. It probably cost me some friends, and it definitely cost me some potential relationships.

I think we all went through that phase. I went through it too, probably at the same age as Syd. I think the fact that I was entering university was part of the problem too. You'll get over it, just like we did.

I wouldn't listen to anything other than industrial/power electric from 19-20. That's a year I could've been enjoying other stuff instead of just extolling KMFDM's virtues. And then, my mind grew by leaps and bounds.

Seriouslly eatpork.....Lame execution of goodthread premise..How about being a bit more constructive and sharing with people the music that does "it" for you. Not insulting other people's taste.. I'm a bit of an elitist when it comes to music myself but I know from experience that no good will come out of trying to tear down others peoples opinions about such a personal thing . It's like trying to convince someone who loves pizza that pizza tastes bad and people who eat it are lame... It's not gonna happen and you are just gonna end up sounding like an idiot...I'm not trying to be a dick myself so instead I'll close with sharing one of my current favorite bands that I love having do it to me in my earhole.
They are the Obits.. (ex Hot Snakes/Drive Like Jehu & Edsel) they do it right! Enjoy!

Here's one from a friend of mine:
"Limelight" - Rush
He claims that Rush is terrible, but Limelight is a good song, and it's their only good song.

If I was only allowed to like one Rush song, it would either be Distant Early Warning or Subdivisions.

+A BILLION! "Subdivisions" is easily one of my favorite Rush songs. But then again, they are my favorite band, so I have many favorite Rush songs.

If I hated Rush, then I'd probably pick YYZ as their best song. I'd imagine the sound of Geddy's voice puts a lot of people off, so I'd pick an instrumental.
Since I don't hate Geddy's voice, and I certainly don't hate Rush, I don't know what my favorite song is. It's definitely not Limelight, though.

"The Trees" is pretty awesome.
"Tom Sawyer" is great, but if you didn't like Rush, you wouldn't pick their most well-known song as the one song of theirs you liked. You'd pick something more obscure. You'd probably pick "Time Stand Still", because it features Aimee Mann.

I don't really like AC/DC too much, but I have to admit that "Rocker" is a fun late-night driving song.

But YYZ was in Guitar Hero 2, so everyone knows it. I think I've only heard La Villa Strangiato once.

Why would I do that when this thread is for bad artists? I'm not here to explain what I like, that's why my favorite genres thread is for. And I only insulted everyone else's taste when they insulted mine and I was asked (indirectly) to explain my choices.
But you guys don't really need to keep bringing my shortcomings up, cause I don't think I'm gonna be frequenting this forum much anymore (our horribly conflicting tastes and people's apparent inability to let this incident die makes staying here just not worth it... well, I might still frequent the video game section cause it's kinda hard to disagree on good and bad video games) , I just came here today because I was really bored, but I was doing good for the first couple of days. I might keep doing the chatroom, though.
But before I go, a few more choices:
Yes - Owner of A Lonely Heart
Neutral Milk Hotel - Naomi
Tupac - California Love
Ah, geez, I had a bunch more ideas, but I forget.

Again, pork, you're allowed to have your preferences, but seriously, Neutral Milk Hotel is brimming with good shit. The worst part about them is Jeff Mangum is a total spazz case. Off the top of my head, I'd say King of Carrot Flowers, Two-Headed Boy, Communist Daughter and Aeroplane over the Sea are killer tracks. Again though, your opinion is yours. I think you need to work on getting a bit of a tougher skin on you. I know people disagree with a lot of what I say or think I have a very poorly developed sense of humor, but I just let that shit bounce off, man.

So you're saying that if someone holds a minority opinion on a minor subject, that person should either submit to the majority opinion or leave? That's not very sporting!
