okay this may look weird as im typing on my ps3. Punk jazz is a genre! Look up The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower or Skeriks Syncopated Taint Septet , there are other bands but ive yet to look them up.

Woah, TPtBUtET are pretty damn awesome.

I still don't get the hate for country. Granted, I'm just as annoyed by your typical arena-filling country act as anyone else, but isn't that the same for other genres as well? It's like hating punk because you hate New Found Glory, or hating metal because you don't like Avenged Sevenfold.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Some artists that I think are timeless include Conway Twitty, Freddie Fender, Johnny Cash, Jerry Reed, Emmylou Harris..I could do this shit all day.

Completely disregarding a genre of music based on it's modern counterpart is fucking childish.

I'm childish. Country blows.

The twang, the fucking strings in the background. It's tough to listen to for me.

To be fair, it has a lot to do with my grandfather blaring that crap while wearing a big shitkickin' hat, working on his car in the garage, and spouting racist epitaphs while I handed him tools.

I'd say the worst genre is whatever that faggot Maynard James Keenan is up to. That overrated high-school stoner dropout rock Tool or Puscifer or that other band he's in with Reznor, Tape worm or some shit. That man is a fucking idiot, maybe even a bigger one than Fred Durst.

You wouldn't happen to be the Tek Knight by any chance?

I've thought about this a lot, and it's a tough one. From any given genre, I can find something I like. Rap and country ya'll seem to hate, aren't even challenging in this respect. I love dubstep and electronic music in general! I know I'm not normal, but you just won't stick to few genres if you collect records & do some work as a dj.

More challenging (or "challenged") genres include:

Happy hardcore
Grindcore
"Washing machine techno"
Speedcore

Plus those genres with heavy political content you don't feel too happy about (nazi punk etc.)

As a bonus, my list of genres that are so bad, that they are therefore good:
Ghetto tech
Cheesy Deutsch dance music with stupid vocals
Italo Disco

What's wrong with Grindcore? It's pretty fun live.

I agree! The band I linked kills it live. Tok me a while to get used to the genre though. Like I said, I'm pretty open listener, and it was hard to think of anything to link here.

Country-pop
Post-Grunge (Nickelback, Hinder)
Pop Punk (Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco)
Pitchfork Rock (my own personal genre that consists of mostly of Merge records stuff, i.e. Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Wilco)
Reggae
Nu-Metal (with few exceptions, Deftones, some Marilyn Manson, early Korn... that's about it)
Crunk

But then again, I try not to judge genres, cause even in all the genres mentioned, there's a few songs I like out of each.... cept for country-pop, the whole thing sucks.

And whoever said Ambient and Post-Hardcore can go suck a dick!

Yes.

The only genre I can't really listen to is rap/hip hop. There are rappers out there with something to say, I'm sure, but I just can't get past the processed sound.

Country music has THE BEST beer drinking songs, period.

I'm a big fan of country. Hank Jr and Dwight are probably my favorites. Then of course you have Cash, Waylon, Kristofferson, Willie, etc. Old Hank is great.

I'm actually a fan of newer country, depending on what it is. I like a lot of Toby's stuff, but some I'm not a big fan of. I'm a big Brad Paisley fan. My wife says "I'm still a guy" describes me to a T.

A lot of country songs talk about two of my favorite things: drinking beer and fishing. So of course, I like this Brad Paisly song.

I can also really relate to this Luke Bryan song.

Also, if anyone is wondering when I turned into a hillbilly, don't forget I was raised in southwest Missouri.

Pfft. I live in Missouri too, and I absolutely abhor country. How dare you insult your own people.

Fair enough. But where I live that sort of lifestyle is commonplace as opposed to some places in the country where the closest some people have ever been to a cow is when they stopped to take a piss at an Arby's. So I can relate to a lot of the songs.

In reality, I don't mind many forms of music. Just rap. I can not, and never will, understand modern rap. It's bad poetry with a bad beat.

On that note, country does have good drinking songs. I will give it that.

I'm still pretty picky with country music. Same with rap. I almost don't listen to rap at all anymore. I still like some of it.

I pretty much like all genres. If I had to pick some music I don't like, it would be the real extreme metal with yelling and screaming etc, with no real singing.

I cannot, in good conscience, say that I hate any sort of music. I classify music in my brain into Good Music/Bad Music. I have listened to the most mind-melting saccharine pop, and found it catchy and easy to work up a sweat with. I have listened to and become addicted to the song Tik Tok by Ke$ha, as well as it's parody by the Midnight Beast (awesome band!). I have listened to some of the worst grindcore, goregrind, junk and found it to be hilarious (I can't help it, I laugh like a madman when I realize that these people actually take themselves seriously). Country is far from the worst genre, and I enjoy most genres of music. If I had to pick a genre that I hate the most, it would have to be saccharine J-Pop for kids. My tounge shrivels up at the thought of the sweety-cutesy taste.

tl;dr: Music is good, but kiddy J-pop sucks.

Ouch! That hurts. I love techno with an unbridled passion. I dislike country, but only because it's all the same jangly, whiny stuff. But I am sure there's great country out there that ISN'T pop shit. The same could be said for many genres.

But I feel that people who hate a genre never really know a whole lot about the genre they hate. They just hear the bad stuff and never take the time to know the good stuff because they assume it will sound like the bad stuff. I'm this way with country. A lot of folks I know are that way with techno/electronic music. And it frustrates the hell out of me, being a DJ and what-not.
