As soon as I saw this episode I knew what was going to happen. I don't really care for Palin's views but I kind of agree with her on this one. This also connects with this topic: http://www.sydlexia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10643
Am I the only one who is tired of how hurtful the show has become? Before they'd find a clever way of bashing something or somebody. But a few episodes this season have kind of crossed the line of being clever to just being hurtful.

Probably not. Though that particular jab she's complaining about is pretty tame. It was that song that went way over the line in my eyes, and while you can get away with doing things like that if it's funny...it wasn't.
Oh, please limit the songs to the damn "Road to" episodes, and while you're at it, get rid of the "Road to" episodes.
Honestly, I don't know why I watch it anymore.

It does seem to be on it's way down.
OMG. I just wrote that, and totally didn't intend the pun.
EDIT: These offensive humorous circumstances only work if the offense isn't too bad and the humor is way over the top. In this case, it was a big offense and there wasn't much humor to be found.
I did like the song. People who don't like the song just aren't inclined to enjoy the type of music they're providing, but you still watch.

I don't mind the style of the song, Seth sure can sing but the content wasn't funny or delivered in a clever way.

Wrong. A lot of times when they break into the music it's pretty good. The FCC song, as an example, was absolutely hilarious.
And this seems to be a trend. The show's declining, but they seem to be going out of their way to make 5 minutes of it unwatchable each week.
A link.

It's like Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 6 right now, we're just waiting for it to end while ST:DS9 (Cleveland Show) is just getting started.
I guess that analogy leaves American Dad out, but that's just the dumpster for rejected Family Guy jokes.

I didn't click the link and was worried it was south park when I heard "on the way down", thank god it's just Family Guy. That ship has been sinking for a very long time.

You need to word your posts a little better so we know what the hell the thread is going to be about. "We All Saw This Coming" is way too vague, misleading and incorrect as I'm sure half the people here don't watch or give a shit about Family Guy.

Yeah. don't care about FG, only because things like this really piss me off.
Seth MacFarlane is one of the biggest hack writers I have ever seen. He doesn't have an original idea and hasn't been funny since Family Guy was originally taken off the air.
What's even more pathetic is that the target audience of this show wouldn't probably make the connection.

I agree Doddsino, in the other topic I've said that Family Guy hasn't really been good and/or funny since season 3.

Well hate to say , but this is what happens when you use a special needs baby as a political tool, so IMO she reaps what she sowed. With shows like Family Guy or South Park you are either in for it all or in for none, there is no invisible line that dare not be crossed. Every joke is bound to offend someone, and thus bound to cause controversy, but people with a pulpit to cry on everytime they get upset are the real joke. The fake outrage is old as the hills in politics and as fake as cable news. I also don't get why people bitch about shows that they supposedly don't watch, I mean if you are not watching it what do you care?

This
Also, Seth MacFarlane may be a sell out at this point, but I hardly think he's the antithesis of comedy that you all seem to believe he is.

Yeah, what BZ said. The majority of people here who bitch about Family Guy are also the ones who religiously follow it's every episode and small political comments. It's creepy.

Word.
I especially love it when people say "It hasn't been funny since season 3." Guess what???? They are on Season 8. If you want it gone watching 5 extra seasons is not the way to get it off the air. Especially if you don't know why your watching it. You can use the excuse "There isn't anything else on" when really it's I don't want to miss the new controversy.
In closing I personally love Family Guy, it gives me my ample supply of fart jokes and crude humor. Whenever I hear people bitch about Family Guy I always picture them wearing tophats/monocles, sitting in a circle smoking a pipe, talking snooty voices about how pedantic everything is."

I do neither. I just watch it, and hope to laugh most of this time.
A lot of this season so far has been a miss, though.

You know, if you don't like it, why not go on the internet and complain about it?
I think the fact that Palin is complaining here is something that's being missed...she wins one PR battle with Letterman, and all of a sudden she thinks she can complain about everything and win. The difference is, Letterman took a cheap shot directly at her kid (which is over the line), and Family Guy just used a throwaway, non-specific, and unfunny joke with her as the punchline (the kid in question isn't even the same gender as her Down's Syndrome child). There's a huge difference.

When I say it hasn't been funny since Season 3, I need to point out that I have watched maybe 6 episodes since then.
Of course, then I get criticised because I'm complaining about something I don't watch enough of, so I'm apparently wrong either way.

I could care less about family guy these days, but it gives everyone their fair share of something to bitch about, so that's a plus.

here we go. this oughta stop this senseless debate.

‘Family Guy’ Voice Actor Says Palin ‘Does Not Have a Sense of Humor’
Since it was shown on Sunday, an episode of the Fox animated comedy “Family Guy” has drawn the repeated condemnation of Sarah Palin, the former Republican governor of Alaska and 2008 vice-presidential nominee.
In the episode, the teenage character Chris dates a girl named Ellen, who has Down syndrome, and who tells him over dinner that her mother is “the former governor of Alaska.” Ms. Palin, whose son Trig also has Down syndrome, has said that the “Family Guy” show “really isn’t funny” and was the work of “cruel, cold-hearted people.” Ms. Palin’s daughter Bristol has written that the “Family Guy” writers were “mocking my brother and my family,” and called them “heartless jerks.”
One person who supports the “Family Guy” staff is Andrea Fay Friedman, the 39-year-old actor and public speaker who played Ellen in that episode. Like the character, Ms. Friedman also has Down syndrome.
In an e-mail message sent on Thursday to The New York Times, Ms. Friedman wrote:
Quote: |
I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line “I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska” was very funny. I think the word is “sarcasm.”
In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life. |
Ms. Friedman also spoke by phone with ArtsBeat about her “Family Guy” episode and the controversy that followed. These are excerpts from that conversation. |
