You know what I would have liked. Jay to stay on the Tonight Show and Conan to stay on Late Night. They promised Conan the Tonight Show after so many years so he wouldn't jump ship. Why not promise him that when Jay retires it is his and raise his salary over the competitors enough to keep him where he was at. That way he stays with NBC without false promises, and Jay doesn't have to feel forced out. The Tonight Show has been a staple for too many years to experiment with. I like both of them. They have different styles, and they are where they belong. NBC is filled with morons. I don't blame either of them, they both have their own style, and they both entertain me.

I really don't mind Jimmy Fallon, but between Conan and Leno they are obviously gonna screw the guy over that has half the ratings they do.

Here's a clip from Conan's show last night. The segment is written well, and there's some good jokes in there. But listen to Conan's delivery. It's terrible. Absolutely terrible. Conan seems to get angry while he's reading it, but that's not excuse. If you can't read your own material without getting too angry to deliver it with proper comic timing, you have no business getting up on stage at open mic night, let alone hosting the Tonight Show.

Letterman has a similar problem with delivery. Letterman's problem though seems to be that he just doesn't care. He is a lazy fuck who fucking mails in his performance every night. If he spent as much time working on his show as he did cheating on his wife, he'd be a pretty funny guy.

Leno's comments are kinda dickish, but they don't seem to be delivered with the sort of spite that everyone has been using while shitting on him. Given all the negative press he's gotten, I find him to be reasonably restrained in his jabs.

And that brings us back to Letterman. He's been referring to Leno as "Big Jaw Jay". Not only is that completely classless, it's childish. Petty namecalling?Seriously? Dave, you may have the crooked, gap-toothed smile of a five year old, but you're not five years old anymore. Either grow up or shut up. Or, since you have such a fucking hard-on for Conan, why not give him your show?

I agree people have been crapping on leno but he has been acting the victim this entire time. Almost every day he says he was "canceled" as if the entire world didn't know he was just moving time slots.

Well, assuming Conan had (or does) accept NBC's offer, Leno would be stuck with a half hour show. How badly would that suck for him? That's 22 minutes of actual program. That's a monologue, an interview, and a musical guest. That's not a whole lot of room for experimenting or creativity.

He is a human being and has human feelings. How many articles have you read about famous actors going off on the set. I'm sure it is a stressful career, no matter how much money they get. I see the reaction of Conan as a normal human being that is reserved about his feelings as much as he can be in the public spotlight. Put yourself in his shoes, I'm sure he is hurt just like any person would be that is promised something and then has it taken from them. What do you expect. A fake smile only goes so far. You wouldn't be mad if you were him?

I may like Jay more than Conan, but I still like Conan and I can understand his frustration. Put yourself in his shoes. What would you do? I hold no ill will toward Jay, but I think they were both screwed over.

NBC didn't give either one of them a chance to evolve and develop their shows. Okay, NBC is under pressure now, but at least give them a year to get an audience. People are creatures of habit, and it takes time for them to accept new things. The original Tonight Show actually went through the same shit from local stations when it first went on the air ( and so did Monday Night Football). They survived. NBC doesn't have anything else worth watching, I say take the risk. Move Jay to 8 o'clock as far as I'm concerned.

Jimmy Fallon, of all people, had the best take on the situation. It was basically: "Jay's a good guy, Conan's a good guy, I'm grateful to have a show for as long as NBC allows me to, and this whole situation sucks."

Jay and Conan are both victims here. Neither one asked for the current circumstances. At the same time, both are fucking multimillionaires. Neither one needs our sympathy or support.

jimmy fallon roasted him on the primetime jay leno show when jay invited him on for "ten questions". it was devistating and very personal. but leno handled it well and professionally.
frankly i really do wish conan would write more for the simpsons or maybe get a show on a channel with an established audience for his brand of humor

That was Jimmy Kimmel, not Jimmy Fallon. I saw a clip of Kimmel's so-called attack on Jay, and it wasn't as scathing as everyone seems to say. Maybe it's just that Kimmel doesn't have a very threatening voice, but the attack seemed fairly light-hearted.

Yeah there's just something about Kimmel that doesn't strike me as threatening. He seemed like the fat kid in school who befriended a couple preps and decided he's entitled to be a dick. I liked the Man Show and everything, but Kimmel as a straight up "roaster"...I'll pass...give me Don Rickles.

I only started watching Conan when he got the Tonight Show, so that's most of what I know about his routine. I'm sure it wasn't extremely different, but was his show better when he was running Late Night?

Conan is officially quiting:

"The late-night nightmare is almost over. Conan O’Brien is leaving NBC and receiving a payout—and he’ll be free to appear on another network before his contract expires, Kim Masters reports."

He had tone down certain aspects of his show noticeably. Most notably, Triumph The Comedy Insult Dog.

Ok, this goes from Kimmel poking Jay's ribs, to flat-out awkward black comedy about halfway through.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Really not that bad. Not that biting, not that mean, not all that funny. His protest at the end is mind-boggling: "We have children, all you have is cars!"

Yeah, poor Conan. Conan's children are going to starve to death because he can't host the Tonight Show anymore. The man has no money saved up, and no one would ever want to hire him again. He's going to die penniless and alone, all because he refused to do the Tonight Show at 12:05. :eyeroll:

The truth is that Jimmy, Jay, and Conan all have more money in the bank right now than most of us will ever see in entire lives.

Which is why I have no sympathy for any of these people and have started to not care anymore. I have plenty of other things I can do between 10PM and 1AM.

I wouldn't care except for the fact that I DO like Conan, I'd been watching Late Night since, hell, 1995, and even moved to the Tonight Show with Conan when he did. Putting aside all matters of who's to blame (Zucker, Leno, whoever) and how fucked up it all is, the only reason I'd bother to chime in is because it's going to suck to not see Conan on TV at all for, presumably, at least nine months.

As an aside, I've unintentionally had it in for Leno since the beginning... I'm old enough to remember at least the tail end of Johnny Carson's run on Tonight Show, he having retired when I was 12 years old, and even then I was like "How do they plan on replacing Carson with this infathomable jackass??"

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.
