Hey, if anyone plays guitar here, think you could tell me some easy-ish songs to learn on guitar? I think my skills are intermediate, and the last thing I learned was probably the main riff from The Trooper.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks Very Happy

What bands do you like? I'd put forth a guess that they have some songs that are easy to play. Playing things that you like will keep you interested longer than simply playing things just because they're easy. When I used to teach guitar, we'd focus on learning things that the student was interested in and that seemed to work fairly well.

I like Nirvana, Green Day (only putting these in cause someone suggested, but I do like them) Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses, NoFX, Van Halen. I like almost all grunge, and something with powerchords is something I'd like more.

The entirety of In The Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.
No, seriously. Not only it's built on basic chords, all the songs are damn effective.

Nirvana is pretty simple and fun. Green day is also pretty simple, but some of it might be too fast for you at first (at least their first few albums? Same goes for NoFX). Shit, you could get teen spirit in one sitting most likely.

Try "Welcome to the Jungle". Some parts of it should be a bit of a workout, but it's a lot easier than you'd think. All of the solos you should be able to do with a bit of practice, as well.

Just did my first runthrough of it. Nailed the chorus and second solo, still working on the rest. Thanks a bunch Smile

Nirvana is easy if you use half ass power chords, if you use the bar chords like you're supposed to they're a little harder. (or maybe I just suck at bar chords)

Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Svperstar is written almost entirely around the same riff, Little Horn is the Beautiful People riff reversed and sped up.

Alice in Chains isn't all that hard as well as Pearl Jam. Sonic Youth is pretty easy shapes if you don't mind retuning your guitar into ridiculous tunings.

Skull Full Of Maggots is an easy to learn fast death metal song, if you want to play stuff like that start there.

Van Halen's "Aint Talkin' 'Bout Love" is kind of easy, it follows a Am, G, Em pattern sort of.
Also, UFO's "Rock Bottom" is a bitchin, yet fairly simple riff. Black sabbath stuff is awesome too like the song named after the band, the main riff is a play on the fucking devil's interval (diminished fifth), plus it has that cool palm muted pre solo riff

Learning to palm mute tremolo pick was a bastard when I started playing.

As a result of not learning the intricacies of economy picking early on, I play a lot of stuff purely with downstrokes, mostly because I had heard Hetfield played a lot of stuff downpicked, that and at the time I figured it made the riffs I learned sound heavier (Rotten to the Core, Master of Puppets, etc..) on my crappy amp. Sometimes it's faster and easier for me than playing in an up/down pattern.

Yeah I tried that too at first, trying to be super fast with heavy downpicking resulted in a lot of broken strings when I was starting out.

Anybody ever get good at those hammer off tremelo chords (not sure of the actual technical term please correct me if I'm wrong) that Cannibal started doing around The Bleeding? I can do them but it's really slow when I try. Sad

Example 1 (around 00:29 - 00:32, you can kind of see the bald guitarist do it, the long haired guitarist fingers move around more making it easier to see but his wall of headbanging hair obscures it.)

Example 2 (around 1:40 in the video, it's that weird down shifting hammer off out of a chord and back in to one, also just really Shocked at the whole thing, watch that fuckers fingers! )

Palm muting kills my wrist, but I can do it on songs like Blink-182's Dammit and Green Day's Basket Case.

Man, I have an acoustic-electric guitar that I got for a graduation gift that has been sitting on its stand for awhile now. I pick it up and play it every once in awhile but that's it.
