I've been subbed in today, as both Satsui and Captain_Pollution are away tonight. So, for the final group in the first round, we have...

The Ren and Stimpy Show - One of the first Nicktoons, the random adventures of Ren Höek and Stimpson J. Cat, many of which involve violence, nearly foul language, disgusting bodily functions, and other things which upset parents of the time.

TaleSpin - A Disney Afternoon show following many of the characters from the classic Jungle Book movie, namely Baloo the... airplane pilot, as he tries to do his job while under fire from the likes of the Air Pirates and Shere Khan the ferocious... businessman.

CatDog - A later year Nicktoon about a creature that is half cat and half dog. That's... really about it, it just plays on cat and dog stereotypes, and the fact that they're stuck together.

The Venture Brothers - Recent Adult Swim hit lampooning old action series', focusing on Dr. Venture and his family, and the many intertwined and twisting plotlines revolving around them.

Knee Jerk reaction was Ren & Stimpy but then I saw Venture Bros. I'm sorry, but that show is just godly.

Go watch the entire boxset for Ren & Stimpy if you have it, then after being thoroughly disturbed and grossed out, remind yourself that it was a show for children. Seriously what the fuck was Nickelodeon smoking? Confused

Fun fact, the new adult Ren & Stimpy is complete garbage.

Just like others, was going to choose Ren & Stimpy until I saw The Venture Brothers. I just started watching that show and it's badass.

Disney Afternoon is getting no love here.

Honestly, I always found Ren & Stimpy just plain revolting.

I watched the very first SNick broadcast with Clarissa, Roundhouse, Are you afraid of the dark, and Ren and Stimpy, and happily watched the show since every time it was on. It's totally fucked up, but is also pretty underrated in terms of humor and quality, so it gets my vote.

I tried watching the venture bros. once and hated it. I must have hit a bad episode or something, but never watched it again after that.

Yeah it's a pretty deranged cartoon, and probably warped a whole generation. Razz

If you watch the dvd releases they all start with one of those "warning this is for mature audiences only" blurbs. Laughing

Yeah, Kricfalusi really slipped some really disturbing stuff into R&S. Not as homoerotic as, say, Ripping Friends, but still pretty creepy. I too voted for Venture Bros, though. Probably one of the best adult cartoons of the 2000's.

Absolutely hilarious and definitely not for kids.

wow ren & stimpy vs talespin.

i loved ren & stimpy (the originals, not that crap they came out w/on spike) and have the box set on DVD

talespin was great too. air pirates and kit cloudkicker were cool.

never cared for catdog

never seen venture bros, and from what i understand, its kind of hard to just jump into the show unless you watch all episodes

Wasn't Ren and Stimpy originally on MTV or supposed to be on MTV?

Ren and Stimpy was fun for about one episode. After that it really wasn't all that good.

I enjoyed TaleSpin though. That's where my vote went today.

TaleSpin, you're cool, I like you CatDog, and I LOVE you Venture Bros, but Ren and Stimpy was my life. MY LIFE. And it holds up even today.

I agree. I'd say the thing between Nick's censorship and John K was like yin and yang, the classic balance of power. Without one side you had seasons 3-6 of R&S, generally believed to be of lower quality, and without the other, you had Adult Party Cartoon. 'nuff said.

It's one of the three original Nicktoons from '91. It aired on MTV the following year because their audience also liked it a whole damn lot.

No idea, but MTV owns Nickelodeon so it probably was considered.

Ren and Stimpy was shown on MTV for a bit, I don't think it was originally created for it.

Okay, I'm ending this one now. Ren and Stimpy wins, Venture Bros is second place.

Tune in tonight into the chat (or the sticky post) for Round 2.

Wow, I never knew that. Thanks for that food for thought.
