I'm shocked there's not already a topic on this...or maybe search just didn't catch it.

Either way, I'm not usually a sitcom fan AT ALL. And if said sitcom has a laughtrack, it fails in ways I cannot begin to describe. (There is a Frasier corollary to that states any laugh-tracked sitcom starring David Hyde Pierce and/or Kelsey Grammer is exempt from sucking.)

In spite of this, I finally let my mother (of all people) drag me into watching Big Bang Theory after literally months of being told it was right up my alley. Well, she was right. I really, really enjoy the show. If they'd just take out the goddamn laugh track, it would be just about perfect. I mean, their theme song is even sung by the freaking Barenaked Ladies! It doesn't GET a whole lot better than that.

Anyone else watch this? Thoughts?

I'm not into sitcoms either and Big Bang is one of my favorite shows. I love it. It's funny as hell, the writing is tight, and most importantly, they get their facts straight regarding everything "geek". No unplugged controllers and pac-man sounds here.

Anyone who is a geek or into pop culture should enjoy the show.

Yeah I love this show, it's one of the few comedy shows that can really make me burst out into extended periods of laughter. Plus the theme song, is one of those that really get stuck in your head.

I think there was another topic on this, because I feel like I've voiced my opinion about this on here before, but I'm not in the mood to search.

Anyway, the show seems as formulaic as most popular sitcoms, just substitute one stereotyped attitude for the the thousands of others that have been covered for the past few millenia. Here, it's Geekery. In Will & Grace, it's homosexuality. In Murphy Brown, it was politics and news. In Family Guy, it's stupidity that drags out in 5 minute scenes to filled the gaps in the writer's brains. In Frasier, it's smarmy Bostonian high-society in the northwest. In Full House, it's family, just like Family Ties, Growning Pains, and Family Matters. While I like some of these shows, it's only because the formula was new when I was younger, but not so much anymore.

I'm sorry, but I am just tired of watching the same fucking thing for 20 years distributed to subcultures around the country.

I respect your opinion but having said that let me say that any half an hour show is going to be more or less formulaic no matter what, it is in the way they put it all together that matters. Expecting massive story arcs or things of the like is unrealistic.

Personally I think while they portray the fun, geeky, and innocent side of the characters, they also have shown massive intelligence in the accuracy of the material in the scriptwriting, which is more than you usually see from most sitcom style shows ( as far as I can tell there isn't a catch phrase on a shirt for this show yet ala "Did I do that?").

It is fun and for the most part a light diversion from the bulk of the same old same old on tv ( CSI, Law and Order, insert your mindless crime drama here). Granted I will agree with you that in the past and currently there have been a lot of crappy sitcoms, this however is not one of them.

I feel the need to mention that Baby Blues also had a theme song done by Barenaked Ladies, and that show was significantly less cool.

Never watched that show, but now I'm going to go check out the intro on YouTube. I love BNL.

By the way Jeebus, you haven't locked a thread in, what, almost 24 hours now. Have a chocolate. Very Happy

Sorry for the double post, but this has to be said...

If you didn't see Big Bang Theory last night, seek it out on Hulu or wherever you go to view day-old TV. This is especially true if your names is Jeebus and/or you are a hardcore Magic fan and/or a big Wil Wheaton fan. I won't say any more than that, just that its well worth your twenty three minutes. Best ep I've seen so far.

Caught the three minutes of it. The Angels/Yankees game ended late, so House didn't start till like 8:45 on the east coast. After it ended, I quickly checked the forums, then put on CBS on for CSI: Miami.

And despite watching only three minutes of it, I predicted EXACTLY what was going to happen.

I do like Wil Wheaton though. If you like Wil Wheaton, you HAVE to see the episode Criminal Minds from last season where he's the unsub.

Well I predicted it to, but that didn't make it any less awesome to watch!

Never seen Criminal Minds before, though...must seek that episode out. Thanks for the tip.

They play an ad for this show on the annoying advertising TVs they have hung up around my store and it's a parody of the Dos Equis "Most Interesting Man in the World" campaign which I find hilarious but makes me hate this show without ever having seen it. That and I don't like being told that I'll like a thing because it's nerdy and I'm nerdy so I avoid this.

I was kinda disappointed by the amount of screen time Wil Wheaton got, but I still enjoyed it immensely. I really hope they turn him into Sheldon's arch nemesis and bring him back every season. That would be awesome.

Needless to say I love "The Big Bang Theory". I so got my ex hopelessly addicted to this show.

Wil Wheaton is also the biggest dick in the universe - I said that before he even showed up on the show, because it's a well known fact that he is. I'm glad the episode reaffirmed this fact. Twisted Evil

Wil Wheaton's blog wrote:
TV Guide Magazine wrote:
Geeks everywhere will be happy hear that Star Trek star Wil Wheaton will be returning to hang out with TV’s hippest nerds on The Big Bang Theory.

“We were very excited when Wil Wheaton appeared as Sheldon’s nemesis, and right now we’re looking to see if he can come back to give Sheldon an opportunity to settle the score,” Executive Producer and Co Creator Bill Prady announced to TV Guide Magazine when the Academy of Televisions Arts and Sciences hosted an Evening With the Big Bang Theory on February 18th. "Fingers crossed that we can do that, I think an arch enemy is someone who appears from time to time."

Even though my personal motto is Don't Be A Dick, I've wanted to play an arch enemy for pretty much my entire career, and I love that Bill described me that way, because I was kind of hoping I'd earn that position in the Big Bang canon.

I've known this was a possibility for just over a week, (coincidentally, I found out the day after I did my Big Bang Theory Q&A post) but didn't get the official offer until this morning.

After my manager called casting back and confirmed, I called Bill to thank him for bringing me back. He sort of chuckled, and asked me if I wanted to know what their plan for the episode was before I accepted the offer to come back. I told him, "You could have me do nothing more than eat Chapstick the entire episode, and I'd come work for you again, because I had so much fun last time."

He then told me what the episode is about. I'm not revealing any details, but it's safe to say that it's a lot more awesome than just eating Chapstick.

I start work on the 24th, and we tape on the 2nd, if you wanted to try to get tickets to the show.

I'm going to go do the Snoopy dance until I fall down, now.

It just isn't that funny. I can count on one hand the jokes they make per episode that don't have to do with quantum physics or shroedingers cat. It's getting oooold.

I really enjoy it. I bought series 1 and 2 on DVD and haven't seen any of the 3rd series yet. May just wait till the DVD comes out.

I love Sheldon but i heard they were going to give him a love interest.. if they do i will probably stop watching the show.
