Yeah, this has been around forever. But no matter how old it gets I still love telling this story at parties. Because it is a good story to tell!

Okay, that is simultaneously the most awesome and most brilliant thing I have ever heard. Good for Van Halen. A very interesting and AMUSING barometer of their hosts' attention and competence. I'm glad they seem to have such good humor over the exaggerated rumors, too.

That's whats up. It's like back in the day when your test would say "read the instructions carefully." and you would just skip them the fuck up. Then lo and behold, at the end of the test your teacher would inform you that the instructions clearly stated that you didn't need to complete the test. This is some grade school shit.

I used to hear that they did this, but never the reason why.
The reasoning makes it ingenious.

This has become kind of a standard since Van Halen did it. One band with a rider I saw (whom I cannot name for legal reasons) requested "1 live kitten" in the middle of a bunch of technical jargon.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

Super old news, but like NBC used to say during their summer reruns: "If you haven't seen it, it's new to YOU!"
