I'm sure we've all heard about the movie with these guys, though I doubt anybody has seen considering nobody has brought it up on the forums yet.
Interestingly, my "history" with this band goes back a tad ways before this movie came out. In the extras section of "Metal: A Headbangers Journey" there's actually a clip of Sam Dunn (the star and director) talking with Steve Ludlow about how Anvil has supposedly been influential on the thrash metal scene, and his response was
"Our Metal On Metal album was like a blueprint of the future, in terms of what was going to explode, and each song had a certain flavor to it, that one band would make an entire sound out of, and to me 'March Of The Crabs' was Metallica, and '666' was Slayer."
I was quite intrigued by this statement and sought to do some research, which was brought to an abrupt conclusion when I heard the songs metal on Metal and 666, and discovered they were the gayest pieces of shit I'd ever heard in my life. These were actually live performances as well, so Steve's chessiness was just fucking douche chilling. It's not even the triumphant cheesy ala Manowar, its the kinda shit where your uncle puts on leather chaps and a jacket and rides around on a motorcycle, and the whole spectacle makes you want to puke.
So, it might have ended right there, but then this fucking movie starts making the rounds. And it must be pretty good, because its actually causing people to reconsider them. Hell, I even decided to try them again. My opinion of them remains unchanged.
I'll say this though, the drumming fucking kicks ass. If Metallica finally decide to man up and fire Lars, they should give the Anvil drummer a call. Hell, even if he wants Steve to come with him I'd be fine with that so long as he sticks to rhythm guitar only.
So, tl;dr, does anyone actually like these guys?

What movie are you talking about? I've sure as hell never heard of it. Also, the candians have nothing to be ashamed of. They have hockey, universal health care, and the legal age there is 16, so it sounds pretty awsome.

If there's one thing I hate, it's being misinterpreted. Look, by "shaming the canadians," I didn't mean "Canada sucks," what I meant was Anvil is so bad it brings shame to Canada's great name, in the same way that Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park brings shame to Metal/hard rock's great name.

How do Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park bring shame to metal and hard rock? Wouldn't they have to participate in that scene to do so?

Well, they certainly tried to pass themselves of as such. Hell I even remember in some Vh1 documentary about metal Fred Durst was being interviewed and he said "We had the rock/rap fusion going on, but I always thought we were metal."

I listen to XM radio on mondays, in which a radio show called eddie trunk live plays, and they've been pushing this movie. I've still never heard any of their music, and I get the feeling that if I did I would find out exactly why they've toiled in obscurity for so long.

Black Light Burns is amazing, as is Wes Borland. He has been in a lot of bands, one is Black Light Burns, another is Big Dumb Face, yet another is Eat the Day, and another is Goatslayer. Limp Bizkit I think the worst band he has ever worked with.
