The enduringly popular theory that the Chicxulub crater holds the clue to the demise of the dinosaurs, along with some 65 percent of all species 65 million years ago, is challenged in a paper to be published in the Journal of the Geological Society on April 27, 2009. |

If I ever become president, my first executive order will be that in order for schools to be eligible to receive federal funds, they must teach that Pluto is a planet.

Why?
(this next statement is in relation to the article)
Their new theory isn't completely bullshit, Volcanic gas/ahses covering the skies making it uber cold.
Isn't that what will happen if the super volcano under yellow stone national park goes off?

I think humanity can survive all that, I mean yeah we'll have to walk around in heavy duty winter jackets and whatnot, but we can survive that.....
OR CAN WE?!?!?

Super volcano goes off under yellowstone, people die, the world get's cold. Human race will go on... so what? We have an "ice age" that will cause us to move to warmer climates (sorry sis I'm not sure alaska would be the best place to be).
We'd then have to commit to different lifestyles, and take over Mexico as our new nation. Canada would get fucked over royaly and I'd pry be covered in the Acid Rain so I'm fucked as well...
I'm guessing that this won't happen, but in any case I still think the asteroid theory is just as credible.

Because up until 2006 it was a fucking planet. It should be grandfathered into the new system.

Newtons? NestleQuik?
I can understand the sentiment of resisting the reclassification, as this is the sort of change I'm usually resistant to. However, it really does make astronomical sense. Pluto is not a planet, but a Kuiper Belt Object, just another remnant from the creation of the solar system.
I would support the grandfathering of Pluto in, but the only real purpose that would serve is mollifying the older generations. Concurrently, it would instruct the wrong thing to children, causing confusion between the regular planets and the rocks at the edge of the system. I mean, thematically it even makes sense. The inner planets are made of rock, the outer planets are made of gas - why would there be another rock planet at the edge? Because it's not a planet, but part of random leftover rocks. Even looking at the orbits it makes even further sense. All eight planets' orbits are in the same plane, but Pluto's is at an angle to all the others, and intersects with Neptune's path. That's just doesn't fit the pattern.
Where's Tyop when you need him?
As for the dino-killer, I remember how unsure they were when I was a toddler, then all of a sudden they seemed almost definite on the asteroid as the source of their extinction. Really, there was never any water-tight evidence of the asteroid being the cause anyway. I'm not sure if we'll ever find out what it really was. Hopefully we'll figure it out, though. I know some programs on the History Channel recently have discusses how the asteroid theory has been eroding as of late.

Mick Mars has a theory that the Ebola Virus killed off the dinosaurs. Personally, I find that theory as credible as any.

If any of you remember your Ren & Stimpy, you'd know that Wilbur Cobb

Oh, the freaking Pluto thing.
Seriously, get over it. We change scientific definitions all the time. Pluto was always wonky, and now that we've found other things that are like it that are clearly not planets, we have something to call Pluto now.
Or should we go back to when there were 7 planets, and two of them were "The Sun" and "The Moon"?

On the Pluto-not-a-planet topic, I thought it was technically still a planet and was just specially classified as a "dwarf planet" and thus all the anger was misplaced. Maybe I'm wrong.
